Question Radar detectors - Opinions?

Have always had one....still do, but its a 6 year old Escort (wired). Im looking at replacing it for my new TL-s... Kind of like the K-40 undetectable detector due to its integrated design (cant even tell its there). Plus it has front and rear detection. What are all of your thoughts....experiences?

k40 is your best bet if you're willing to throw out that kind of cash. i have it on my nsx. the valentine is also a great radar detector, right next to the k40.

I have to agree...the V1 is definitely a GREAT detector, but I always have been and still am, partial to the K40. I do carry them if you are interested. Just email me:

Thumbs up

Far and away the V1 is the best, read any of the tests. I don't have any info on the K40 that is probably good too though. The nice thing about the V1 is that you can take it from car to car. I love mine!!

..all good points. I have debated on the V1, but Im looking for an integrated (read - built in) look. I have had the old BEL version that I mounted behind the grille and put the tiny display unit under the dash hood. But...that was back in 1983... I just dont want to clutter up the windshield or visors with a detector...just a personal decision. Hey streets.....since I live in Indianapolis, what is the price on the K40 if I bought it from you? You can email me if you like.

V1 is my choice. Get the remote display unit and velcro it to the top of your steering wheel column!

I have an Escort Passport 7500 detector. It does it's job, pretty well in fact. The new Escort 8500 was rated just as good as the V1.

Visit radartest.com for great reviews and tests. You will be surprised by what you read. Also, when you ask people for opinions on Radars you have to keep in mind that the same radar will work less or more effectively depending on the type of location: city or suburbs.

i have the Passport 8500 and it is a great unit i can tell it definitly has more sensitivity than my old 7500 on the KA band . radartest.com said it has almost 2x the distance of a V1. it also has a volt meter to tell you the electrical system voltage as well as a frequency counter that tells you the frequency of the radar being sent to you.
also has the SWS and safty alert system. mine has already showed me the presence of a train nearby and emergency vechicle. a cool feature if you ask me.
