You use the entire telephone cord - not just one of the wires. I assume you have a wire splice to connect it to a power source, now just connect the entire phone cord.

on one end, yes, you use the whole cord+connector, but i am tapping into the wiring atop the rear view mirror, and inside the telephone cord there are yellow, black, red, and green wires...i'm not sure which is the "hot" wire and which is the "ground" wire

Good question, been thinking of doing this myself (or a remote mount SRX with shifters). I think two of the wires in the cord are for audio. Black and red will be your +12VDC lines however.

Im confused. I have my V1 hardwired into my TSX and powered from the reading lights behind the rearview mirror. I tapped the entire phone cord onto a power supply and everything works fine. I may be misunderstanding what you're doing...

TSXsurf....what do you mean you tapped the entire phone cord to a power supply? from the directions i've heard you must take the phone cord's "hot wire" and splice that onto the wire going to the rearview mirror. Then, you must take the phone cord's "ground wire" and attach that to some metal part of the car. So what you are saying isnt making a whole lot of sense...maybe you could explain how you modified the phone cord to attach it, where you attached it, and which wires you used?

I GOT IT!
rmpage you were correct, after some testing i found out that the red wire was the hot wire( which gets spliced into the black and yellow wire) and the black or green wire can be used as a ground wire. The yellow doesn't seem to do anything, but hopefully this information will help somebody in my situation in the future
