question about amp - jbl bp600.1
I am going to be ordering my two 12" aw1200q (audiobahn) subs tomorrow or the day after. i was told by a guy at a store that all i need to power those subs is 1 jbl bp600.1 amp. do you think this amp is sufficient?
each sub is 700rms and dual 4ohms impedance
http://www.cardomain.com/shop/item.pl?sku=ABNAW1200Q
the amp is
http://www.cardomain.com/item/JBLBP6001
im not sure if the amp is powerful enough... what do you guys think?

That should be enough power. But there is an old saying "you can never have too much power". Most people try to get too much out of too little. It all comes down to how loud you intend to play your system. Plus additional power will make your system sound better with inproved dynamics.

If you are ordering 2 of the subs on the link, then I would not go with that amp. The subs you list are dual 4 ohm subs. That means your final load with both subs wired will be 1, 4, or 16 ohms. The 600.1 is not rated at 1 ohm so, at 4 ohms, each sub will only be getting 150 watts. Unless you can get that sub in a dual 2 ohm, I would look at the JBL 1200.1. Then you could go with 300 per sub. If you can get dual 2 ohm subs, then you can achieve a final load of 2 ohms and your 600.1 will put 300 per sub.
I hope I explained that enough.

Thanks for the info guys. Would it be ok if I bought one of these amps for now and a bit later on I get another one of these? So it would be one JBL 600.1 amp per sub? For the time being I don't want my system to sound too loud. I just want it to sound nice.

IF thats the case, just get 1 sub for now. your current amp will power 1 of those subs nicely - probably sound better than stressing that amp on 2 subs. Those subs can take alot more power than that amp will give them. It will power them, but you will run the risk of messing the subs up with to LITTLE power - you need more.

ok now this is getting kinda confusing. lucky i haven't ordered the subs. I found another audiobahn. If i get one sub then i will get this one. It is Audiobahn AW1205Q rated at 1000RMS and is dual 2ohm impedance
http://www.cardomain.com/item/ABNAW1205Q
is this amp suitable and if so can you tell me how much power will be going to each sub...
http://www.cardomain.com/item/MTX81000D
i might be able to get a good deal on it.
only thing is it says that it is not recommended for a sealed box. can i use a sealed box anyway?

Kinda the same problem there. If you are using a dual 2 ohm voice coil sub, then your final load will be 1, (not recommended with that amp), or 4 ohms. That amp will put out 500 watts into 4 ohms. Probably a bit more as they are underated. However, if you use a dual 4 ohm sub and wire it for a 2 ohm final load, the amp jumps to 1,000 @ 2ohms. That is some power.
Also, you probably could use a sealed but, if its not recommended, then it may not sound as good in a sealed as a ported.

thats the problem i am having if i find the sub i like then i cant find the amp. the first sub is dual 4 ohm but only 700RMS this sub is dual 2 ohm but 1000RMS. I just got back from beamriders and they suggested i get the JBL1200.1 amp for the 1000RMS sub. So which amp would you recommend for this sub and how do i work out which would be a suitable amp for the 1000RMS sub? Thanks for all the help.

I have never heard the subs you are looking at but, I will give you my opinion. I would get the JBL 600.1 and the dual 4 ohm sub. The sub costs less and you can run it in a small sealed enclosure. You would be giving the sub 600 watts at 2 ohms. The other option is buying the 1200.1 and the other sub. Unless the 1200.1 is stable to 1 ohm and I am not sure if it is or not, you will be running the dual 2 ohm sub at 4 ohms. In which case the 1200.1 will only be putting around 600 watts at 4 ohms. Alot more cost for the same amount of wattage.

ok, so the jbl600.1 will be putting out the full 600 watts to the Aw1200Q (700 rms dual 4 ohm impedance) sub? is tis enough power or would i need an amp that would put out 700 watts?

600 watts will be great. No need to worry. In order to see a big difference over 600, you would need up around 1,000. 600 to 700 would make almost no difference.

unfortunately for me the jbl is sold. I am still getting the sub - 12" Audiobahn AW1200Q 700 RMS dual 4 ohm impedance. Do you think this amp is suitable. If so I will be ordering it.

I know it is quite powerful and i can turn the power down so as not to cook the sub.
Thanks.
