sup guys so yeah i am new here i am from houston texas i got a thread up of my TL in the 2nd generation forum. well yeah i work at a shop called the new cj sounds out of houston and we got the z1's in and boy are they sweet got only 1 installed in a hummer its really nice.
some more info on it.
-you can rip songs on the unit
-smart memory on the navigation meaning when u go a certain routes for 3-4 times it remembers your route so the next time you type in an address it will show u the quickest route with the same way u usually drive.
- and mostly the crappy part is the bypass... it is just a simple switch on top of the unit itself the 2nd you flip the sticker up another one lays down saying void. so yeah that sucks...
- its a 7.0 inch screen instead of the standard 6.5
- bluetooth on there is sweet as well loads up to 100 songs and you can make all calls from the unit itself
anyone find out a 2nd way to bypass instead of voiding the unit?

Also, to add to all this, some people might have some general questions about the Pioneer brand of product (with regars to navigation), so I had sent off an email to Pioneer and here are the Q&A's...
1) What is the difference between the AVIC-D1 and the new AVIC-D2?
1) The software is different
2) Concerning Bluetooth, is the AVIC-D1/D2 compatible with the ND-BT1?
2) Yes
3) If yes to (2), Does the AVIC-D1/D2 have a phonebook integrated like the
AVIC-Z1?
3) I asked a tech, and he is waiting on that answer.
4) When will the ND-BT1 be available? Is the Carrozzeria (Japanese-sub)
ND-BT1 the same as the USA-version of the ND-BT1 that will be coming out?
4) They are both the same, coming out in June of this year
5) Which phones are compatible with the ND-BT1?
5) Anything with Bluetooth
6) Concerning parts and warranty, what is the warranty on the AVIC-D1 vs.
AVIC-D2 vs. AVIC-Z1?
6) The warranties are all for one year
7) Does the AVIC-D2 use the same hardware components as the AVIC-D1?
7) Yes
8) Will the AVIC-Z1 (unit) allow DVD-playback? Will the AVIC-Z1 allow
DVD-playback thru the XDV-P9/P90?
8) Yes and Yes
I'm a little hesitant about Question 5 (considering there are ALWAYS some phones that do not work well and experience compatibility issues), Question 3 (would be interesting to eventually find out the answer to that one... if anybody has spare time to email them about it for an update).
And on a side note, the Alpine IVA-W200 is out

im not too impressed with this
in japan the navigation systems are way crazier, its almost the same as the z-1, with the split screen, but on the left side it shows actual graphics of the buildings around you and shit, instead of just green and blue lines symbolzing roads......it shows all the major landmarks like tokyo tower as actual 3-d buildings with color and everything

Just sounds like fluff. Would rather simple and to the point than big graphics and pictures that are more distracting. Besides, you're only pointing out one feature, and one feature does not a winner make. On the Z1 you get modules for BT, Satellite, and a backup camera. It's HD based instead of DVD based which is a big plus. You can use the HD for loading music so you don't need to bring your MP3 player. Has nicer screen res than much of the competition. It's an impressive unit, and I'm going to be working on installing this in my 06 MDX. Will pick up a spare face plate so I don't ruin the original.

For the money the Z1 is great but between it and the 872 I'd take the Alpine hands down. Oh and btw what's pioneers plan on updating the mapping sys?

I just bought the alpine W200... To say the least I was really disappointed.
First of all, it costs 850$. It doesn't come with BT, so you gotta buy Alpine's BT module (230$). It doesn't come with navigation, so you gotta buy Alpine's Navi (1250$). The W200 doesn't come with any interesting EQ settings (3 band only) for a deck of this value I was really shocked, gotta go out and get the Alpine processor (450$).
I'm left with a 2780$ bill at the end of the day, when the Z1 has integrated BT and integrated navi for 1200$.
I've seen the Z1 in person, it also has some cool visual effects like vehicule dynamics and good looking backgrounds. The only appeal the W200 has with regards to visuals is the possibility to have your own backgrounds uploaded to the system (which I'm sure Pioneer allows as well).
Disappointed in my choice, I thought the W200 would have more to offer; Alpine's CEO retired this year, we'll be seeing some good things from Alpine next year.

I actually did read about it. I still landed on the Alpine deck + BT + DSP + Navi.
The Alpine Navi is unbeatable, I'll give them that much. The BT is questionnable. The DSP is awesome.
I'm a big buyer of Alpine decks, this is my 4th. I just thought Alpine would keep up the tradition of excellence when it comes to sound quality. To my surprise the EQ on the W200 had 3 bands. Apparently it's a trend now to 'dumb' down all decks for the mass crowd.

BT is bluetooth. Also, look at the forthcoming AVIC D3. Do a lot more research on all these units to make sure you know what you're getting into first!
