Opinions on my audio setup...

I will finally be uprading my audio system on my 2003 TLS. I am looking to get your opinions of my setup. I am going with JL XR's component speakers in the front and coaxials in the rear. I want either 2 JL w6v2 10's or 12's, but I dont really know how much space i will have left in the trunk. Any idea? I may just go with one if space turns out to be an issue. To top it off I will be going with JL amps.

The big question is...can I keep my facory HU? I have the 6 disc Bose HU and I have heard that it is quite a pain to keep. I will need a quality installer in Atlanta and if you have any recs I would appreciate it. Your comments are appreciated.

well, on the subs, i did 1 10", standard type q-logic box from crutchfield, it takes up about 1/3 of the rear part of the trunk, so 2 10's will probably take up the better rear half. i built my amp rack, capacitor, and sub holder all in one so its like on a tray. as far as the hu, all i have to say is i wouldnt jack with it, i got an alpine, and god bless mp3/wma player and aux in for my mp3 player. save an extra 300-500 and get a decent hu. your already spending it on nice speakers and i assume a few good amps.

I listened to the JL components before I went to DLS - they sounded ok, but even MB Quart sounded better (a lot better) in the shitty board at the store. I suggest you look around before deciding on any component speaker. Can't go wrong with JL subs regardless.

before jumping to JL components, there are a few other brands out there that may sound a bit better for the price

JL XRs are a awesome choice. But when I got my system down 2 years ago I went in and said I wanted XRs, Ultimate Audio has done all my audio work and knew what type of music I liked and what I look for. They suggested the Alpine SPX 177a to me. Alll I can say is after hearing the XRs and the Alpines I am glad I went with the Alpine. But the Xrs do sound awesome. but lacked the midbass I was looking for.

Thanks for the replies. I have pretty much decided what I am gonna go with:

* 2 12w6v2 in a prefab JL box
* XR or equivalent MB Quart comps and coaxials for the front rear (need one more night to think about it)
* 300/4 and 1000/1 amps...Chromed out!!
* JL Cleansweap

A friend of mine owns a store and he was kind enough to hook me up with the equipment at cost. Now the big question other than which speakers to get is where do I mount the amps? I was thinking that both of them could be mounted on their sides on the left side of the trunk. Any suggestions?

The polk Momos are a bit overprice for what you get. Honestly, the JL Audio XRs would top the Polk in smoothness and details. The comparable MB quart set to the XRs would be the Premium series. These two are different in sound. Some like MBQ's tweeters, others hate them.

well i didnt pay retail i can assure you on that, just wondering where they stack up against others. i say it comes down to what the person listening can hear and notice, but, next time around i'll look deeper into it.

Don't mean to hijack. As far as the mp3 player to the car, I just wanted to make sure I got it right. I have an Alpine also with aux in. I'm assuming those cables where you plug the radio to an mp3 player (one plug for the headphones on mp3 player, white and red plugs for the aux in) is all you need right? Then just set to Aux on the radio and control from the mp3 player?
