Newbie Que - Speaker Size
Just want to know the size of the factory speakers for the front and rear doors. Installed a JVC KD-SH9700 mp3 player (works excellent I might add) and my rear speakers are beginning to "clap" b/c of the extra power.
Thx in advance...

You can get away with 6.5 inch in both. You may have to do a little work though. 5.25 inch will also be fine. Just make sure you get a shallow speaker or you will have to make a big spacer for the magnet not to hit the window. You should do some searches on it to find the exact depth. You will find it cause I did! good luck

Your factory speakers are 5 1/2.
What you need to do is get a four channel amp to run your after-market speakers. Your car would sound ten tymes better if you would do that. Your bose is pushing out a different omh load and a different impedence load. You can put 6 1/2 but you would have to customize your plates. Probaly have to get wooden plates by cutting them out yourself. Or if your not a handyman, Metra has custom brackets that would cost 15 dollars. I would put comp. set in the front, but you would to drill holes in that little plastic casing on the door.

Actually you can put in new speakers in the doors and keep everything else stock....the Bose speakers are actually 4 ohm. Then only thing is the Bose eq in the ride boosts the treble like 20DB so if you put in an aftermarket speaker with a real tweeter, it will sound kinda harsh, but you can turn the trebble down...
anyway, if you want to go the cheep route that would give some improvement, get new speakers 5.25 inch would fit pretty easy but 6.5 inch can be done with minimal work if you get a shallow mount speaker....I have the Focal "Slim" series and they fit nearly perfect and they are 6.5 inch....

do you have the specs on the speakers you installed. What speaker was it..
I wanted to drop in some infinity 6.5" 6002i's in the doors and they seem like there pretty slim compared to other speakers. Want to know if i'll have to cut anything or make a spacer. These speakers are 2 1/4" deep.

I did just to give the speakers something more solid to mount too vs. the plastic spacer. Its not hard, if you have one of those rotozips or some sort of tool like that. Mine are really slim - hense the "slim" series. They are about 2.25 inches deep maybe. The regular series is over 3 inches. You shouldnt have a problem with those Infinitys at all.
You may have to trim some of the door panel some also. This sounds worse that it is. Nothing some tin snips cant handle. If you have too, just cut it out carefully - little bits at a time. Once you can put your speaker in with the correct room, make your wood spacer and there you go. You should be able to get by with 1/2 inch plywood for your spacer.
My speakers are Focal 6.5 inch the Polyglass line. They sound amazing, much more sensitive than most speakers - they carry them at CarToys if you have that store near by.

OU,
the slim series focal look interesting. How much do they go for? Are you using the factory radio or did you get an aftermarket since the focals are very good..
Also, with speakers that are only 2.25" deep, do you still have to make a wooden spacer? I don't have one of those "rotozips" to facilitate cutting..
thanks..

No you dont have too, just gives a better mounting location/surface. Check my Sig. to see my equipment. They go for around $500/pair at the stores. They have more expensive lines - the Utopia's are around $1000/pair!!! wow, I think the Polyglass line is a very good set. The sound is amazing and so smooth, no matter the volume.

i wanna get the focal polyglass 165v2's. The regular ones because the maget is very small on the SLIM speakers, and there cheaper than the SLIM.
Do you think they'll fit? I don't mind cutting a little bit of metal off the door and/or trimming the basket behind the speaker. I just want to make sure there will be enough room for the window to roll down.
The SLIM are 60cm deep ~ (2.36"), and the 165v2's are 72cm ~ (2.83").
thanks..

Ya I bet either would fit, I just went with the Slim to be sure. Just do some searches on here...I know its in here somewhere cause I found it, someone actually did exact measurements...search for Polk DX6 or replacement speakers or something like that. But ya you could make a spacer for either to fit Im 90% sure.
