Lightbulb New DVD-A Authoring Software Downloadable DEMO

There is a new piece of software out called Steinberg Wavelab 5. It can be found at www.steinberg.net
There is a downloadable demo and I am trying to figure out how to use it. It has complete DVD-A authoring tools built in including the capability to produce the audio in surround sound. It seems a bit harder to use compared to Discwelder. This is a demo copy and I am not sure how long it lasts before exp. My guess would be 30 days, & I'm sure there will be some way around this in the near future. Give it a try and post some feedback on it here. I will as soon as I figure out how to use it. All I need to do is sit down and read the help file that's included with the demo.

Are you aware if the demo allows you to save and burn your layouts?

Okay, I just started playing around with it myself. It's definitely a lot harder to use than DiscWelder and does not allow you to save files. You have to create montages (audio layouts), save those, and import them into the DVD-Audio projects. But because you can't save the montages, you can't import anything.

I started playing around with it late last night. I didn't get as far as saving things so I was not sure. Maybe a crack will be released to allow the saving of audio montages. We'll have to wait and see.

You could use a previously created wavelab 4 montage file *.mon. That alows you to dump the audio_ts directory to disk...

Let me know how you do... I can't seem to get my TL to read the DVD... When I go into the Navi Audio screen it shows the disk as DVD-A then spits it out about 2 seconds later... I've tried FUJI DVD-R, Verbatim DVD-R and Memorex DVD-RW all with the same results... I'm not spending any money to I know it works... Someone should have a demo that alows you to write a song or two..

I used Wavelab 4 to create the montage using mp3 files on my computer. I saved the montage as a file and then started wavelab 5. I then went to new dvd-a project. When I did this I went to add montage(green +) and selected the file I saved using wavelab 4. It then started decoding the audio files(mp3's) I used. After about 2 or 3 minutes of decoding all the mp3 files I clicked on the create button and it says THE AUDIO MONTAGE DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY DVD TRACK. This is where I am stuck. Let me know what I am doing wrong. I'm guessing you got as far as burning. Thanks.

In the demo version select file open "DVD-Audio project" then select the MP3 files.... then select the CD tab... Next select Options from the above menu then "Mode DVD-Audio". Next select functions then dvd wizard then apply.... Then you should be able to write to disk without that error...

Ok, I burned the dvd using nero as a data dvd. All I did was add the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to the disc that Wavelab created. I put the disc in and no go. It says Format on the screen and spits the disc out about 5 seconds later. I have no clue what to do next.

That is exactly where I am... I've tried Nero but that is it.... I know that DVD-Audio is ISO/UDF.... When I place the DVD-RW in it says DVD-A on the navi screen but then it just ejects it out :-(

Sucks man, I don't know what to do. I might just purchase Discwelder. May be easier.

you have the Audio_TS and video_TS directories?
that's good. Look into a program called Gear Pro 6.05. That allows you to IMPORT audio_TS and video_TS files and author DVD-A.
I haven't had any success very much with dvd-a authoring tools yet either. What files are in the 2 directories that you guys have?

There are BUP, IFO, AOB, VOB files in the AUDIO_TS directory. The VIDEO_TS directory is empty.

But even when using GEAR, I get a error when selecting the AUDIO_TS directory then the program crashes....

I know there are some that say discwelder works but my question is what if it doesn't... I mean it say right in the TL Book that it doesn't support dvd-r dvd-rw.... I know there is a differance between works and supported but still...

Well according to others on several posts regarding this, they say that they have successfully burned and played the dvd-a's on the TL's dvd-a player. Seems like the dvd- discs work better than the dvd+. Discwelder seems like the way to go, and it's only $99, maybe even cheaper if you look around.

Ok, here's the deal. I got my hands on the full version of Wavelab 5.0 and it worked like a charm. I only made 1 disc so far and used a TDK 2x DVD-RW. It did take a short time to read the disc in the TL but it works, thats all I care about. Also, 98TT check you PM's

I haven't tried wavelab 5 yet. Do you import the .wav files? or will it convert mp3s?

It will convert mp3's, software has a built in decoder. It does other files as well, such as wma.

Yes! Finally!

I've almost spent $99 for the discwelder for my mp3 DVD-A discs before I found Wavelab5. I've created 2 DVD-As last night and it played perfectly with my TL. It seemed that discwelder is easier but there's no crack version out there. You will be able to find the blue light version for Wavelab5 from H2O. It takes about 3 hours to master the work flow, but after that, boom! I can create DVD-A from mp3s within a hour. It even had it's own integrated DVD burning software. Now it's the time to order 100pk DVD-R!!!

I hate to be dense but how do you save the .mon file? I imported a CD but could not figure out how to get it into my DVD-Audio project. Also, when I import a MP3 the only way I seem to be able to place it is to cut and past the wave looking thing. Seems like a lot of work to me.

A step by step of how you do it would be great!

Thanks!

Wavelab has a feature called audio montage. You have to create a montage before burning the dvd-a. Once you start up the program (you need full version) go to file-new-audio montage. Then you have to change the mode to dvd-audio. After this, go to the file tab and that is where you add your files. You can use wav, mp3 (128-192), and others. The program will automatically decode the files once you add them. Once you are finished compiling your montage, you need to save it as a file on your computer(do this by going to file-save at the top of the window, not withing the montage window). After saving go to the dvd audio tab and click on the dvd audio wizard icon. Then click ok. Now you are ready to burn. After clicking the burn dvd icon (on the dvd-audio tab) it will prepare all the data and allow you to burn. Thats all there is to it.

Oh, and you need to use dvd-r/rw discs, not dvd+r/rw

Hope this helps.

My hold up was that I was trying to find a way to save the montage from within the montage building window rather than using the file-save in the main window. I created a DVD-Audio that plays in my home DVD player. Too bad I don't have a TL yet but I'll take it to the the dealer Monday when I have an appointment to test drive one and see how it goes. Hopfully I'll have a TL soon!

Thanks for your help!

Do you guys fiddle around w/ the audio dispatching in wavelab? I followed what bfechter was saying and it came out to be that audio wizard only created 1 marker. This was mainly because the audio tracks were not outputting to either the left front or right front speakers. This is kinda painful as I have to redo the audio dispatching for all 81 tracks. any help?

Did you add each wav file as a different track? or put it on the same track?

For those that have not figured it out - put them on the same track..

I did not mess with any settings.

Seeing how I can't create a disc using the demo software to test with my car, can someone who owns Wavelab advise as to whether it's worth the purchase price?

Unlike Discwelder, Wavelab WILL work with MP3s, which is a huge deal to me. I've converted most of my CD collection to MP3 and have it all stored on a network drive.

Has anyone created a DVD-A from MP3s? How does it sound??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
