TSX replacement speaker idea
1"
LPG 25NFA http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/ind....18580&pid=635
or Seas 27TFFNC/G (H1396)
http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/ind...18751&pid=2136
6.5"
Dayton RS150-4 (actually a 6" speaker)

6x9"
Tang Band W36-1213sb
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...TOKEN=54447327
(I think these are ok for open baffle installation) too tall?
I plan to equalize out any sensitivity variations.
Thoughts?

Not planning on using the oem amp. but mixing up impedances does complicate matters. I can stick with the seas 1" and dayton's for consistent 4 ohm loads. Otherwise, I'll be adjusting the gain (per channel) to compensate for different loads.
as far as 6x9's, I didn't find a lot of driver options. Tang band has a 4ohm, but its efficiency is 84db

Is there an easy alternate speaker size to replace the 6x9s?

I think one member here used 8" in the back where the 6x9's were. Don't recall who that was though. 6x9s with any kind of large magnet will interfere with the trunk springs but you can get around it by replacing the springs with shocks (there is a thread on this).
I'm not too familiar with Tang Band though I did notice that the cones were made of paper. The rear deck of a TSX is a rather harsh environment (sun, temperatures, especially here in So Cal) so I would prefer a poly cone. It seemed from the description that the Tang Bands were more intended for indoor use.
