Need some help. JL Audio 10W3 vs 10W6v2

I currently have 2 10w3 being powered by the JL Audio 500/1 which are currently blown. I am thinking about replacing them with 2 10W6v2. My question is how much louder will the bass be. I loved the amount I had with 2 W3's and do not want an overkill amount of bass.

Just wondering everyones suggestions.

W6v2 will give you more...but need more power too. One 10W7 would be nice, if you got about $500 to drop on just the sub...and for that coin, I would say to stuff it into a custom enclosure, give it exactly the space it needs.

I have to use two subs due to my current configuration. Even though the W6s are a little underpowered will they still sound better than my current subs or should I get the 10W3v2?

i think 2 JLw6 v2 will blow your ears away. i have one run off a 600 PG ZXti amp and sound clean and loud as hell. but one 10W7 is the way to go.

The reason I was considering staying with two subs is because I already have a custom box with custom kick panels and I would have to have another box and panels made if I switch to only one sub.

You can always run two 10W3v2s.

I have made up my mind and am going with 1 W7. Now I just have to have a new custom box built as well as a new kick panel to cover the box so all you see is the speaker. I have been told that I should definitely use a ported box with the W7 like the high output box they sell for it.

Any recommendations here? Anyone compare a sealed to a ported yet?

I had my 10W7 in a slot ported box and I thought it was too boomy...so I switched to a 1.30 cu. ft. sealed box and it gets really loud and sound musical.

Boomy is really what I am looking for. I currently have pretty good output with my current subs and do not really want any more boom. I really want good, clean tight bass and the W3s are good subs but I want cleaner with less distorting. I bought the sub and now I just have to figure out what kind of box to put it in.

One stereo shop and the JL rep suggested the slotted port box to maximize performance and another shop said just a sealed box would work great.

Yeah I just spoke to a stereo place here in Tampa that knows there **it and they said a slot ported in approximately 3db louder and if I am looking for clean, tight bass then I should stick to a sealed box.

I am using 2 10w6v2s with a JL 500/1 and it sounds good. From what I have heard the JL amps put out a good bit more power than in the specs. The RMS range for the 10w6v2 is 150-400 watts RMS. I think you would be fine with two 10w6v2s or even two 10w3v2s because they have improved the design of them.

shanecl6spd yeah the jl amps put out quit a bit more power than they are rated byt i still say you are underpowering your 10w6v2's... the jl 500/1 is said to put out 600w... that means you are only pushing 300w to each speaker... and another thing how jl under rates there amps they also under rate there speakers... you could easy push 500w to each of those 10w6v2s and still not have to worry about blowing them... oh one more thing.. 6spd cl-s the 1 10w7 will probably hit harder than the 2 10w3's you had but the 2 10w6v2's will hit harder than the 10w7... but the 10w7 and the jl 500/1 are a very good match.. just my 2 cent..

Shawhite, you are right about not enough power for 2 W6s with the 500/1. They will still sound really good, but you will not get the full potential out of the speakers. This is why I am going with 1 10W7 and giving it 500 watts which should be perfect. I am having everything installed and completely redone today and am picking up the car tomorrrow. I will let you guys know what I think.
