The stock stereo on the s2000 is not going to cut it. I need to replace the head unit and 6.5 components, plus add an amp to run the components.

Its been a while since I bought audio equipment so I come to you for advice...

what deck? I'm a loyal Alpine customer, so I'm thinking about a cda 9855

This glidetouch thing (the white strip under the display) looks pretty cool. It does have an internal amp though, which I'm not crazy about... doesn't look like the 05 lineup has any without internal amps.


For the speakers, I'm thinking about Infinity Perfect 6.1.

I have an Infinity Perfect 12 vq sub now, and I love it.

As for the amp... no clue. I've heard good things about soundstream... but even their smallest amps are listed at 200+ watts rms per channel. Is that too much for a set of components?

Any thoughts, criticisms, suggestions?

I looked at the web site... there is one in their hardcopy catalog from the CES show that isn't on their web site yet, but it was the unit you are looking at with no internal amp. Must not be shipping yet... can't find my catalog...

Now that I've agreed with your HU... : )

First off, I am not a Soundstream fan, especially of any current amps. You would be far better off with a JL Audio "slash" (which I don't sell) or an Audison (which I don't sell) or a DLS (which I do sell).

Second, when it comes to mids and highs, I have been an infinity dealer in the past, and I have always found them to sound bright, hard, forward and dry. No warmth, no richness. I would recommend instead a Focal (which also has that characteristic to me, but not as bad as the Infinity), the JL Audio (I don't sell it), or the MB Quart or Diamond (which I don't sell), or the a/d/s/ or DLS which I do happen to sell. I am a big silk dome tweeter fan,

If you want a set of components and no subs, how about using a DLS 100W x 2 with a high pass filter you can set down to 40 Hz to keep the 6" door speakers from flapping?

Got a budget for the speaks and amp?

Thanks Ken... I will look into that head unit. I think I have the CES catalog somewhere.

As for the amp... I actually have a Kenwood kac x520 that I'm selling on eBay. It will do 125 x 2. I was planning on selling it just because its large... but now I think I'll keep it (unless there is a reason not too...) http://www.cartoys.com/cartoys/showd...56&PID=1596467

Ok so now its just the speakers. Budget is.... cheaper is better, but willing to spend what it takes. $350 maybe? I'm flexible.

Which a/d/s or DLS speakers do you recommend/carry?

And I don't plan on putting a sub in the car....right away. I want to try the system without a sub and see how I like it. If I find that I miss the bass, I might throw my 12 in the trunk if I can find room.

But for now, just the speakers.

I have DLS and a/d/s speakers in my car and I'm exceptionally happy with them--especially the DLS. I would see if Ken (Elduderino) can get you the DLS UR6's--they are by far the best speakers I've ever had. (Warning the tweeters are kind of ugly).
