Nav MIX w/ 3rd party HU
Alright guys, I have been planning my new system for quite some time now and I am starting to familiarize myself with the specific wiring charts that I will need to be using to connect everything up. The plan is to use my stock nav system cause I love it with my alpine cva-1005 head unit. Now, I absolutley need the ability to hear the woman in the nav unit when she is talking. What I was thinking of is some sort of an automatic switcher that would switch my front speakers into the nav input while she was talking and then switch back when she finishes. Any ideas on how to do this or a product that would be suitable?

check out parts express or mcm electronics I know one of those sites has a little control module that is sound activated and triggers a relay, then you can use a DPDT relay that is controled by that module to switch between the navi voice and your amp sound. I'll try to find it and sketch something up for you real quick.

I was able to use this device by Sony to retain the NAVI voice on my aftermarket headunit:

I took a look at that before. How would it work and does it work automatically?

The way the navigation works with the stock radio is whenever the navi voice is talking it sends 12v to the radio to mute the front speakers. So this unit allows you to set it up exactly how the same way the stock radio and navi work together.
Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Question:
If a CD is playing and then the navi starts to talk, how does the switcher know to prioritize the navi input as the one that is supposed to cut through?
AdamR
PS - thanks for the help so far

Listening to CAR AUDIO 1.
Turn on CAR AUDIO 1. The sound source changes to CAR AUDIO 1, however the power supply to CAR AUDIO 2 remains turn on.
Listening to CAR AUDIO 2.
After turning off CAR AUDIO 1, turn on CAR AUDIO 2.
In other words it automatically prioritizes whatevers in CAR AUDIO 1 (which would be the Navi voice).
