Magellan Roadmate 700 GPS

I was thinking of buying one of these and was wondering if anyone's had experience with one? So far the reviews on the net that I've read are pretty positive. It's got a 10GB HD so you don't have to upload any maps to it or anything like that.

If you have enough Iternet savy to reach this site you don't need an HD based portable GPS. While it might not be an issue in a TSX know that there have been problems with HD based GPS on other vehicles - some HDs don't hold up well in vibration prone environments. GPS makers have HD based units for people that don't want to (or don't know how) attach their unit to a PC. You will want to when newer maps are available.
The Garmin 2610 would also be a good candidate.

10GB is a lot of storage for maps. I was able to upload my road trip map from Toronto to Seattle on my Garmin with only 512MB. I think all of NA will fit on 2GB.

I ended up picking this up from gpscentral.ca last week and so far I love it. The GPS signal is picked up really fast and it gives great directions and re-routes really quickly if you veer off the initial route. The voice directions are clear and the user interface is really easy to use. The touch screen and quickspell features are real time savers.

Here's some pics I took of it this morning on my way to work. I just wish Acura had given Canadians the navi choice, since I would have got that for sure. But I guess this is the next best thing for now.

Now we know your commute route.
Nice setup - for the few times you actually need it.
For the folks who go on 2/3 road trips a year this would be a much cheaper alternative to the built in NAV. And you can share it among other vehicles as well.

Yep for sure I'll have it at our next meet - whenever that happens. I bring it with me all the time. It's been pretty useful already for the short time that I've had it. There's been a number of places I've gone to that I was able to just punch in the addresses for and go. It's going to be super handy when I'm in California in a couple of weeks. I intend on doing lots of driving there.
