low frequency noise (crackling?) from front speakers

Hi.

On a 96 3.2 TL, I hear low frequency noise in the front speakers. The noise is not there, or not noticeable, when the audio does not have sufficiently low frequencies in it.

The noise is like a low frequency crackling vibration. Sorry I can't describe in any other way (I can try recording it, however, and posting it here).

Also, it comes from both sides.

So, how do I go about finding out what is the source of this noise, the receiver, the amp or the speakers? Also, er .. does this car have a separate amp installed someplace? If yes, where?

Thanks.

High pitch whine? Did you just purchase the car?
