Looking for decent parametric EQ

I just finished setting up part of the system in my TSX using the stock head unit, along with a Hifonics parametric EQ, among other equipment. Unfortunately (and thanks to Eld for the heads-up), the Hifonics EQ is a little "noisy" and I can't seem to make it go away, except when it is bypassed. I am bumming now, because I really like that EQ, it is a 10-band parametric with separate knobs for left and right frequencies and gains.

Oh well, that puts me in the market for a decent new parametric EQ, but there doesn't seem to be many makes/models available. I am looking for at least 5 bands of parametric equalization, with separate left and right controls, preferably variable Q, and trunk mount design. Know of anything out there that would fit the bill and not cause me to empty the bank?

Thx.

I have two Alpine 3402 EQs (1 used, 1 NIB that I'm keeping), and a Clarion 4-band trunk-mount parametric NIB.

They're all disco'd, and I see no 3402s or 3401s on ebay.

3402

What year is the used 3402? Hard to find info on it, but I did finally dig up an owner's manual. It can be configured for 7 bands if used in 2-channel mode, correct? Is there anything wrong with the used 3402? How does it fair in the noise department? I may be interested if it is working fine and the price is reasonable.

About the Clarion EQ, can you provide the model number so I can research it also?

Thx.

Can you explain the difference between a parametric and a processor?

I use have a G320 and a H510 in 2 of my cars. I would suggest one of these digital processors if you choose to go this route. They are also both disco'd.

A parametric EQ allows you to control the boost/cut (like a graphic) but it also allows you to control the center freq value (unlike a graphic) and also the "Q" of the filter - how narrow or fat the effect is around the center freq.

Some HU's have parametric EQ features in them... but he needs an outboard model.

Is that what the 1.0 2.0 and 5.0 is on my 510 within the parametric? I use all these features, but i have no idea of the proper terms. .

Has anybody tried a pro-sound EQ in their car w/an inverter or otherwise modified power supply? I am looking at the Alesis PEQ-450 parametric EQ for $199 new...looks like it is pretty much what I am searching for. Would need conversion of RCA to 1/4" jacks, and I dunno how that would fare in terms of impedances, EQ input/output signal voltage levels, etc. Is this do-able?

You can get 12V modified Ranes from Image Dynamics...

Here's pics of the Clarion and the Alpine.

http://kward1.homestead.com/Paraeqs.html

The Alpine is clean but used, the Clarion is New In Box (remoived for pics). No screw marks, no scratches.

PM me if you're interested after seeing the pics...

I ordered two of these from Indo Audio. We'll see. I plan on trunk-mounting one in the X5 to address BMW's horrid EQ curve.
