JL Amp Owners

Anyone have the 250/1 amp. I installed it along with the 10w3v2 sub today. I was wondering what settings did you guys choose. Also I'm getting some static in my radio. Anyone know what would cause this. I have the AudioLink LOC coming off the rear 6x9's into the amp. Thanks for any help.

Isn't that amp a "digital" Class D? They seem to cause FM interference...

I would use an xover point of around 75-90 Hz or so at 12dB/octave. You can try 24dB and see if you like it better.

BTW, does the noise get worse with hi-beams on and rear defrost on?

The 12dB should be fine because your output from the factory amp is already crossed over, probably at 12dB/octave.

If the xover can be bypassed you should try that first and see how it sounds... probably too boomy, but try it as a reference...

I havnt had the hi-beams or rear defrost on yet with the new setup. The distortion isn't that bad just a little static on some stations so it's not constant but there was no static before. Ill try playing around with it today and see if that helps. It sounds really good though. The TSX really holds the bass inside the car. The trunk doesn't rattle and if your outside the car with the sound half way up you hardly notice the bass.

Sorry - probably doesn't make a difference. I was tired when I wrote that.

Since the TSX antenna is in the back window, and I think the antenna amplifier is back there too (amny in-the-glass antennas have external amps to boost the signal), the vehicle seems very vulnerable to FM interference from Class D amplifiers.

I'm not very optimistic about solutions. THe antenna amp (referred to as the antenna coil in the Elect T-shoot manual) is located inside the driver's C-pillar trim, near the base of the pillar near the rear deck. Looks like it's the size of a pack of 100's. Also looks like there is a side-curtain airbag in there, so be careful.

The noise might be being picked up by this amp. It's possible that shielding this amp might help, especially if this box is plastic instead of metal (can't tell in the photo). It's also possible that shielding the short harness from the rear glass to the amp might help. Lead foil, and you may want to solder a ground wire to the foil and ground it to the car.

But if the antenna in the glass is actually picking up the noise (and not much reason to think that it's not, since its JOB is to pick up electromagnetic fields) you may be outta luck.

You could try some lead foil on a panel over your amp... but at this point it's all theoretical to me. You might want to contact JL Audio and see what they say.
