The JL 12w3v2 sounds good and loud

I swapped out the 12w0 from my Powerwedge box with a 12w3v2 D2 and what an improvement. I wired the sub so that the combined impedence of the sub is 4 ohm. I'm only putting 120 watts rms from my PPI5480 into it. Sitting in the car my ear hurt with my volume at 20... I haven't cranked it up to 30 yet and I'm already afraid I would blow my ear drums.
I was considering replacing my trusty PPI5480 with a JL300/4 and a JL300/2 but now I'm having second thoughts. I'm really impressed with the PPI. I already bought the JL's but my PPI is already louder than anything I would play on a regular basis.
I'm thinking of putting the JL amps and 12w0 on Ebay and save the money for some rims and tires. But in the back of my mind I'm wondering will the JLs make my system sound any better. They are brand new and I don't want to hook them up then having to turn around and sell them used if they are not a great improvement over my PPI.
Any thoughts. Thanks
