Homemade Zen Holder

Hey guys,

I don't know how many of you have CreativeLabs Zen Xtra but... I made a homemade Zen holder out of aluminum piece that works pretty well for me. Probably not the best but it only costed me about $1 so can't complain. No holes or drilling so I can remove it at my convenience. If you have any interest, let me know and I'll take some more pictures for you and provide directions/tips. Thanks!

Good eyes. I used masking tape on top of 1" aluminum piece. It was closest color idea I could come up with without actually using paint. Thanks!

is it clipped on to the aluminum piece? did you hook it up with the aux input? very nice diy for cheap! custom clips can run you like 40 dollars.

Yeah, the Zen player holder(came with Zen) hook onto the aluminum piece that you see there. I had to give it a contour shape so it doesn't rock side to side. The aluminum piece is about 1/8" thick so it's bendable/shapeable with little work... then I just added the masking tape for crude color match.

Thanks to you guys and this forum, I did install the SNHOND3 aux input.

That looks good. I have an iPod that I was thinking of a way to mount it as simply as possible in the car. I like your aluminum holder there. Do you have any instructions on how you made it and how it attaches. I see it clips under the part near the carpet, but where does it fit onto up next to the seat heating button? Do you have to remove the panels to mount it on there?

I'm sure you can come up with something that will work for iPod.

My crude-holder is really Simple in design. No clips, but 1" wide aluminum bent into shape. If you look at the pictures below, "V" portion just hooks along the bottom edge of the plastic console paneling, enough clamping force to make it stable. The padded hook portion rests just next to the passenger seat heater button. Hope I didn't confuse you.

If you want, send me a picture of what iPod holder looks like, and I'll be happy to make up something for ya.

Nice. You should show the people at www.nomadness.net.
I have a Nomad NX, I just toss it in the cup holders (I never drink in my car anyway), with the play and track advance facing me...

Actually, now that I have XM, I never really listen to it.

Ps. If you're looking for a power adapter, BestBuy has a unit that puts out 5v (they're hard to find, although I hear a 4.5 will power it fine), but the amps are a little low, so you couldn't transfer music with it plugged in.

Hehee, my stock mat are kind of dirty... I actually have WeatherTech rubber floormats that I purchased for TSX, which I use during winter to cover up my snowboarding mess.

Thanks, it's not fancy but it works well. Yep, I used to do the same, in the cup holder and lying sideways. It worked okay but I needed some cup space With the new homemade holder, now I can manage my tracks little more ergonomically within reach.

Bad news, I just checked BestBuy.com, they don't carry it any longer. It was a Jensen unit which may explain it. They just got aquired by Audiovox, so maybe in a few months they'll be a similar product under their brand.

Check Ebay.
