Group Buy feeler - TSX sub box

Many of you have seen pics of the custom-molded corner sub enclosure we make for the TSX.

How many people might be interested in a group buy?

We can do Image Dynamics, DLS, and Eclipse woofers.

I'll say it again, I have one of these from Avincar and its simply top notch. Solid construction, good fitment and nice carpeting. With a 10" DLS woofer the enclosure sits basically flat against the driver side of the trunk and provides excellent response and hits low with consistent tones; the DLS especially surprised me for a what 10" can deliver.

I highly recommend these to anyone considering a sub setup or an upgrade from their 'box'!

Yes. Never a fan of taking up trunk space but this is slimline. I'm headed north to OR soon.

I am DEFINITELY intersted in a driver's side box w/ 10" DLS.

and by interested, I mean I'll buy it as soon as it's available.

I am curious about price though.

what price, quantity u looking at? also, would you offer the box without a sub?

well, I did a little research on the DLS Magnesium Reference subwoofers that you are offering with this setup.

They seem to strongly recommend these NOT be used in sealed enclosures. Any thoughts on this?

Your quote from that shop is not too crazy at all as far as were concerned. You get what you pay for and quality is most important to us.

That's a bit pricey! The materials for these are pretty expensive and it takes at least 3-4 full days of labor to construct them. Figure approx $75-100 in material alone. Then calculate about 25-30 hours of labor minimum (per box). Using WA minimum wage your sitting at about $350 without any type of profit what so ever! So if you can find these for about $400-500 ea, you're not getting ripped off at all in my eyes. With fiberglass materials you don't save that much even when purchasing in bulk. A gallon of resin is still about $30-35 if you buy it by the 5 gallon bucket and a yard of mesh is still about $7-9. If there was any real profit in these things eldude would have been back to this thread in a heartbeat, especially with all of the "Yes" responses. If he sells them for $400ea on this group buy you should feel lucky because his shop will do nothing but make fiberglass boxes for the next month and profit a few hundred bucks at best. I won't make one for less than $450 myself anymore. It's just not worth living in a complete world of fiberglass for minimum wage. Especially when ya got skills that most don't have.

when I was up there at avincar last week, I told eldude(ken) about the interest in the GB. He is pretty swamped and not able to respond. He is still making them at the normal price. worth it to me I got one installed there w/ a 10" DLS. Very nice.
Agreed fiberglass doesn't have a high profit margin, unless that is all you do. Avincar is an car audio shop that happens to have the custom TSX enclosure. so consider these custom. custom costs.
I'd suggest calling him if you very interested in getting the group buy going. He is a great straight forward guy. he'll tell you what's up.

awesome info CJ, def feel you about the profit part so I guess I can understand why some well known shops will ask for a higher price or ask for higher labor wage.

Well, I asked him to special make mine like that, with the recessed design. I've seen his other ones (2 others in person) where the sub is mounted to the top of the box and the DLS grille is on top (more 'normal'). I saw one of them where the box was padded outward to have extra volume and support a 12".

The coolest thing about Ken and his shop is they'll do whatever you ask! Even if they don't respond here sporadically, they have seriously quality products and are well worth working with.

OK reach, I know you spent a nice chunk of change on that box. Please tell me that by now you have upgraded and re-routed your speaker wire. There's way too much time, money and effort to have radio shack speaker wire running accross the trunk like that.

as promised....

I had AVINCAR install an upgrade to my 06 TSX in june 2006. This included the fiberlass subwoofer enclosure discussed above. It has the DLS MW110 10" amazing work as you will see in the pics.

AAmir
check your PM.

the summary is I didn't do the install. AVINCAR did.
my DLS amp is bridged to I believe 200W mono, to the sub with the rest powering the front components. Ken would have to elaborate.
