Going to take the leap.....need some info....

Well, after some long debate, I have decided to take the entire factory system out and do an all aftermarket install. Here is what I am considering:

Alpine CDA 7977 head unit
JL Audio VR525 - 5.25s.....Is this the factory size?
JL Audio 6x9s...can't find the modle number right now
Orion Colbalt 4 channel amp
Kenwood Excelon Mono Sub Amp
Not sure on the sub yet, possibly the Kicker L7 solobaric or a Pioneer Primere tsw 12-4 in a seal box.

What do you guys think? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have the L7s and love it. But what I did was search Ebay and made sure I got the box first.

Box with s/h $50
Sub with s/h $245

With the amp, if the PG Ti 600 is not that much more expensive, get it. It is so convenient being able to dial in the amp bas level from the seat. $540 with s/h for the PG

The box that you got.....you got it from e bay? Was it made specially for the 12" L7?? Is it a seal box or ported?? I think I want to just run the Excelon amp that I have for now to try and keep cost down, do you know if I will be able to run that sub with that amp?

go for phoenix gold or JL amp

what's up NoleCLS.
i think that you have a great alpine deck (better than mines) and you plan to get a kicker solo baric L7. so, u have two good quality things. however, i recommend that if you can, you should pay extra money for an amp that you can run w/ the kicker solo baric. you know, like balance your system out? for example, maybe jl audio or phoenix gold? i think these amps can handle the solo baric L7. the solo barics have a high frequency and they can handle up to 1000 watts. not saying that the kenwoods are not a good choice, but the other amps would be my choice. i don't mean to sound bias w/ my choices but just giving you my input. if you decide to go for the amp that you REALLY want, then believe me, you will be quite happy with the result. whichever amp you choose, hope it sounds great!

I'd suggest looking into a JBL BP1200.1 for a sub amp. They can be had on Ebay for a real good price. $269 from Scala1. 1200w into either 1 or 2 ohm. I have one of those running 2 Eclipse 88120DVC's and it works great! Lots of power, good price.

Mine is a sealed box. If you search my 'name' you will be able to see a picture of the sub and amp in my trunk. Just a very simple set-up.

I am not a techie so I am not sure of your amp will work with the L7.

Nice to know the L7 can handle 1,000 watts. You may laugh, but I am afraid to crank it up too much on the bass for fear of blowing the L7.

solo baric grill

hey eggplant-EX.
I have a same solo baric box like your, it looks greats and I likes it. But one thing you should have a grill cover the sub to protect it,
than your sub look more safe. I am just giving u an idea, yours choice.

L7's sound great in a ported box. The directions given with the sub from Kicker are great. A ported box makes it sound like 2 L7's in a sealed. Give it a try or look into it..you won't be disappointed. L7's are stiff as hell. They need some strong power to move those things.
