Gas Springs Replacement for TSX trunk...Still working on it.
Just a quick update. I tried four different sets of gas springs of different lengths and resistance over the weekend. Disappointed to report none of them fit. I have to order several new sets this week and try again next weekend.
The problem is the full travel is about 4 inches, and it's only 8" clearance behind the hinge. Subtract mounting brackets, and mounting hardware you only have about 6" total of clearance. It will be a very tight fit.
Word of caution: ttorsional springs are not easy to remove. So please be very careful if you try to do this at home. I certainly would not recommend it if you don't know what you are doing. They are in constant tension at both open at close position and everywhere in between. I was very careful, testing different ways before I could get mine off to mount the gas springs. So try it at your own risk. Don't sue me if you pop an eye out or something.
I'll keep you guys posted.

No, but I'm telling you hand surgery is no fun. I still have not gotten full extension on my middle finger yet. So it's kinda hard flipping people off on the freeway right now. he, he. The stitches are coming off next week, so watch out.
For the first week, it hurts like a bitch, but I hate taking Vicodin. It makes me all drousy and not myself. I rather take the pain and stay sharp than feel high. Go figure... Last weekend I used some padding with a large glove so I was able to use my hand and a Makita to do most of what I wanted to do. Too bad it didn't work out.
I can only work on my car in the weekend. I got a real job and two kids so that takes most of my time. Next week I have to travel to NY for business so I have to finish the gas spring install this weekend. Stay tune.
