Gain setting on amp w/ W6v2

Gain setting on amp w/ W6v2
I have a question regarding the gain setting on a JL 500.1v2. It is currently setup using the factory default W6v2 parallel connection which equates to 2ohms. According to JL Audio guidelines for gain setting the voltimeter setting should be 31.6v and it would be doubled, so that would equal 63.2v. My question is since it is a dual voice coil woofer, should i consider the current setup as bridging two channels and divide the ohm in half as stated in the guideline? In simple terms, what is current setup considered? Two wires from the woofer to the amp, is it called a bridge or normal connection. I download a 50hz sine wave mp3 audio also to test. Just waiting for which voltage to set it on. Please help.

i have the exact same set up. use 31.6. 63.2 would be mad and prob blow the sub. i dont event the amp could go that high. if you need anything other setting let me know and i will hook you up. also mine beats pretty hard

I don't know if I'm doing it wrong, but the only way I can 31.6v is by turning the bass boost up along with the alpine DVA9965 sub boost to15. I bought a $20 voltimeter from kragen. Innova 3310 with the setting on ACV 200. Is this right? It is just to much bass for me. THe gain is a little over half for 31.6. Should I go ahead and ajust my other amp, alpine pdx 4.150. Is it the same principle 31.6? Right now at my normal listening of 15 the bass knock too hard. So for now i left the gain back 1/4 and turn the amp bass boost to 10. It sound better for the current alpine amp setup.

leave the input sen. at 31.6 and adjust the other settings like the bass boost. also use your infrasonic filter. with that you can adjust what freq. it bumps at. turn the bass boost down to like 4 and that should be good.

When it was at 31.6v, I turned the amp bass boost all the way down but it continued to produced a lot of bass. The Alpine's HU has a sub volume control also, max is 15, should I also turn that down?
3/4 volume of the stereo volume is 22. I usually turn the volume up to 15. I guess I should make my other amp louder by adjusting its gain so I don't have to turn the HU up to 15 which produce too much bass. I wish alpine has some way to measure its amp also.
Maybe I can't adjust the JL amp to its full potential because of Alpine's limiting amp.

What exactly are you using to produce this voltage???
You need to use a 0dB sine wave test tone. If you're using music, your voltage will be jumping around like crazy.
Read this page, it's basically the same procedure as the JL, but it includes the right test tones you should be using, and the explanation is a little bit more understandable...

Also, check to see if you forgot to set the volume on your head unit at 75%...

thanks, the link was very helpful. I had 50hz track on before on a 55hz setting on the amp. I will try the new 50hz cd I just burned from the link and adjust my amp to 50 hz. I'll turn off all my setting on the HU and hope it gives a reading.

I had track seven, run a loop and had everything turned off, except for the sub volume. If I turned it off and later use it, it would read over 60v which can blow a woofer. So far so good. I had the volume at 26 since the max was 35. I will never buy an alpine amp again. JL just sound so much better.
