Full Fiberglass Trunk...99 TL

This is the beginning of what is to be a very long project. I had a huge box for my Kicker 15L7. The box was ugly and didn't fit very well...I want it to look cleaner and more professional with more space, so this is what I came up with. For those of you with constructive criticism please comment away.

The pics are progressive order:

Again, please comment or suggest away, because I am working on this right now. I am gonna start the resin in the morning (Friday)

woah! thats gonna be a PIA to get out. Have fun with the glass. Wear a resporator, those fumes are gonna kill you when you're in that trunk. Keep posting pics. I woulld like to see what you're doing with this.

Good Luck with it .. 2 questions: 1) Why not use a cardboard template to make a box outside of the trunk then glass the front?? 2) Is that lamp staying?? 'cause I would go with something a little more modern

Yeah I'm definitely gonna need luck here...The front is not what I was worried about glassing even though I am gonna do that now. This sub needs a lot space, and the box that WAS built for it didn't fit the lines of the trunk, it stuck out too far.

And the lamp is just easy...don't have to buy anything...I'm a cheap ass.

Probably is gonna be a PIA to get out, but if you saw what I pulled out, you would have more confidence.

Here is the first layer of resin and mat...

Ok...wasn't that much of a pain in the ass to get out...might be to get in tho...gotta make sure i don't make it too big, yet big enough to support a 1000watt 15" sub

Here it is with two layers:

nice. are you going to mount the sub and amp on there or just the sub. i think you should mount both and do them both on angles.

Nice! That thing is huge! (that's what she said) You should be able to fit (2) 15's in there. Which way do you plan on having the sub fire? Backwards or up?

Are you going to remove the tape from the outside of the box or just add a layer or 2 of glass over it?

I'm gonna try to remove the tape as best I can...if not I will just leave it...won't be seen.

Sub will fire towards the back of the car like normal .

I am running a Hifonics Brutus 1000D. I drew up a pic of the idea. Lets see what you can come up with. I am thinking angle both the sub and amp, and pull the middle of the box in to kind of corner the sub and amp...I am gonna use paper towel tubes and lay fiberglass over that to create holes to hide the amp wiring in. Should be pretty easy to sink the amp in.

We'll see how it goes

Why didn't you just build a false floor or glass the tire well?

put the wire hole right above the amp and run all the wires to one hole. the less holes there are the less you can see the better. Just make sure you cover those tubes in a lot of fiberglass so they force of the sub does not break them and cause a leak cause you wont be able to fix a leak at that spot.

so your thinking like just one hole in the middle under the amp? I just thought of that, what do most installers do to hide wires in this situation?

Ok guys...I'm well on my way to having this thing completed...just gotta find a painter to match it to my car...I've messed my garage up enough.. lol
So here are some new pics...First two are of the framing, and the last is the fleece with resin on it...tomorrow (Friday) I will start the fiberglassing, and prolly won't get around to sanding until next week as to make sure the whole thing is completely dry. and won't stink up my car.

hmmmm....can't wait to see what it looks like completed. So you're gonna mount your amp/s on the right side correct? And why don't you just cover it with matching cloth instead of having it painted? IMO matching it to the trunk carpet would be much nicer than paint.

Good job so far! How much clothing do you have glass on? Is it on the dog or cat as well?

So what all are your plans for your trunk? That looks like a mold of the spare tire well...right?
