Front speaker wires
I'm doing the install on daddy's car today. what i've done so far is picking up un-EQed preamp signal and remote turn-on behind the HU, and bring that under the pass. seat. current from batt is passed thru the firewall and is under the seat too. what is next is bringing all that in the trunk, and pass speaker wires up the the front. I would like to keep stock wires, at least the part that is in the door loom. is there a connector somewhere between the HU and the doors where it would be easy to do the connections? I'll be dead at the end of the day but i'm so nervous about how it will sound, like a kid in the Xmas morning.

Hi,
Easiset to hook up the speaker wires behind the HU, since that's where they end at the harness. (Best would be to run new wire to the speakers, but I was way too lazy for that...)
Also, see my earlier post (at the bottom). I'm having terrible problems with the remote turn-on lead not having enough power to do anything. Test it with a VOM--I'm getting something like 9.5 volts.

I'm getting between 10.5 and 11V when the engine is not running, and 13.5V when the engine is running, this is at the end of my 20 foot rca cable with incorporated remote wire.
for the speaker wires going in the door, I absolutely need to splice somewhere under the dash, where i'll mount crossovers. there's no way i'lll take one hour to remove the head unit again.

30 minutes to open the dash and seal it back up. I think you'll spend that long unwrapping harnesses and looking the right wires.
Actually, the stock wires are so small that you should just pull some nice 14 gauge speaker wire instead. Probably be easier too.
So, your remote from the factory HU turns on your amp. I wonder what was wrong with mine...

I found the door harness to be near the fuse panel, each side. I tapped there to use the least stock wire as possible. BTW, my amp is turning on even without the engine running. it sound awesome except from static noise. I already passed too much time on this stereo, but I'll try my phoenix gold amp this week-end to check in the jensen it not the cause. I know it's not the cleanest amp out there, I don't remember having so much noise when I used it in my car. I already know what will be my dad's "for me, from me" Xmas gift. new amp and a 10" subwoofer
