Finally I have XM and my auxillary input on my 05TSeXw/Navi!!!!!!

Heres how I did it.....

I took the plug from the bottom of the stereo and spliced in to 4 wires. Here is a diagram. Some of the colors may be wrong but you only need 4.

Pins 14 and 6 are the Left channel input from the XM unit.
Pins 13 and 5 are the Right channel.

Splice the wires from the plug an make sure to leave enough to work with on both sides. Get a pair of RCA jacks (all female ends) and cut them in half.

PIN
14= L- connect to the outer part of the RCA Jack
6= L+ connect to the center part of the RCA Jack
13= L- connect outer part of rca
5= L+ connect center part of rca
4=Shield
Do the same thing to the wires comming from the car.

The rca's I used didn't require a shield so I didn't use it. I never even cut it. If you have rca's that require shield, splice the wire from pin4 and use it accordingly.

You should now have 4 rca jacks!

I used a SOUNDGATE AUX 3 to control my audio inputs. You can choose between 3 different audio input by way of the switch. Here's a picture!

I connected the rca's connected to the plug to the main output of the AUX3.

The rca's from the wires comming from the car were connected to the main input of the AUX3.

I then connected my tv tuner to Input A on the Soundgate.

And when I get my PS2 connected it will be connected to Input B.

AND BINGO!!!!! It works with out any sound problems. I will monitor it for a few days, buteverything sounds wonderful. What a relief!

DId you read his title?

"Finally I have XM and my auxillary input on my 05TSeXw/Navi!!!!!!"

He selects "XM" and then ... "You can choose between 3 different audio input by way of the switch".

There are 2 switches I added. The switch on the right turns my screen from Navi to Video. The button to the right of it has 3 settings I, O, and II. O is the "neutral" and plays the XM signal. When I want to hear the TV I switch to II. When I want to hear DVD/PS2 I switch to I.

I don't think I ever posted but, basically you just spliced into your XM cable correct? The Audio portion of it that is, right?
Also, when yo uwant to select your AUX source, I take it there is no CD-C selection on your HU but instead you keep it on either XM1 or XM2 and then switch to your other sources?
I just got an 05 TSX with factory XM so I want to do a pretty simple solution, which yours seems to be.

I spliced in to the 4 wires that run from the xm box (R & L output) to the bottom of the Head Unit. They are basically like rca level inputs to the HU.

There is no CD-C slection on my HU. I keep it on XM1 or XM2.

I used the Soundgate AUX3 (About $60-70) to switch between my auxillary inputs.

The output from the XM unit to the HU is constant. So in order to use it, it needs to be temporarily interupted. That's what the AUX3 does. It has a 3 way switch to choose between Input A, Input B, Nuetral (XM).

Thanks for the info. Makes sense. Kind of like a multigame selectors that you can use on your TV to play different video game units.

By using that adapter he mentioned first, no it does not. You are splicing into the extra harness he bought and then just plugging that in.

If you need to take it out, just unplug the original end from the new harness and plug directly into the xm radio again!

So if I get new bus harnesses -
Male: 08A31-0E1-010
Female: 08A31-0F1-000

I can just rip out the stock one and wires and replace them with the new setup, then swap them back when needed?

Cool....

has anyone else attempted this mod?

First off there is not RIPPING of wires. Just unplug the original adapter, plug one end into the new adapter and then the other into the XM unit itself.

Second you will have a MUCH easier time finding the female version, then male.

About $42 from any Honda dealer.

I completed my setup last night actually. I am amazed at the quality of the sound.
Get the RCA jacks at Radioshack for $3.99 a pair. Then just solder the wires to the jacks and you are done.

I didn't buy any harnesses. I bought a Soundgate Aux3 and cut in to the wires that go to the plug on the bottom of the HU. It's a stock factory plug on the car. The 4 wires you tap in to are for the XM input.

As far as warranty goes. If you blow something doing it, they might not replace it. but if something else goes wrong down the road you should be ok.

If you do it near the head unit you are just looking for punishment. I like things simple and easy. Much easier to get to the trunk and do it all in the kitchen with that adapter and then plug it in back in the trunk :P

Plus this way you avoid any warranty issues at all!

I'm with you about getting the extra hareness... $40 and be able to restore it to stock before warranty work is a no brainer for me...

Did you happen to take pictures along the way for a DIY Guide? I'd love to know how people run the switch over to the other side of the steering wheel... I know there are guides for ripping the center console apart....

How long did the install take?

I put the soundgate in the trunk area by the navi and xm also. All I did was splice some wires to make the switch longer and mounted the switch in the center console.

Look Here:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120209

Mine is the second set of pics.

PLEASE NOTE: that I got rid of the hot gluing idea. If you read the whole thread you will notice that I updated it today.

So you didn't rip up the center console? you disconnected it in the trunk and did it that way? how'd you run the wires up to the front of the car? (sorry if I sound stupid with all this....I'm a n00b )

EDIT: <NEVERMIND> I see you just posted a link to the DIY.... Thanks!

Also check out the original original thread:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117588

DMBFAN:

If you remove the trunk lining on the right side of the trunk where the navi is, the xm radio is right there. Just remove it by loosening three screws. Sorry to ruin your day

Also check here for some REALLY great instructions for something VERY similar:

http://www.robertcotran.com/persephone/navi.php

If you look at page 3-5 you will see the trunk area.

I see where the problem is. You are dealing with a TL in your case. Apples and Oranges my man! This is a TSX issue. No wonder why you bought plugs and stuff. I thought you had a TSX. Totally different ball game! If you have a TSX it would be better to follow what I have done for now until there is a better way to do it.

Please don't post TL stuff in this thread! We have a different head unit and different issues in our TSX with Nav and XM. That is what this thread was made for! You are just going to confuse people.

Thanks for your help, but please leave this thread for the 05 TSXers with Nav and XM!!

We have different problems than 04tsxs, TLs, RLs, MDXs, Hyundais, Volvos...etc!

It seems I got confused from the Subject...since it doesn't say anything about car model, I say 'T' and assumed TL...

Sorry about that....

Where does the plug that goes into the bottom of the HU run to? Would it be possible to buy that wire/plug setup and splice into the extra one - replacing the stock one? That way I could return it to stock at anytime that I wanted by putting the old wire/plug back in.

CJams, how long did the install take?

Also, have you experienced any volume drop in the XM radio after the install?

No volume drop! Or minimal if any for me. I am not sure if there are any plugs that can be purchased for it. That is the main issue with keeping XM and adding an auxillary input right now. No one makes a plug and play adapter that will work yet. As far as I know, splicing the HU wires is the only way to do it. There are plugs out there, but they won't let you keep XM. It took about an hour to install it. I can't remeber if I had to take the stereo out. I don't think I did. The wires have all been soldered since we're dealing with rca level inputs that are subject to noise.

i doesn't matter what you have 04-05 TL, 05 MDX or 05 TSX they all have the same issue when trying to add an aux input (you lose your Navi screen, and all of the buttons stop working), i did the same thing to my TL and a co workers MDX, cut the 4 wires in the same white harness, and spliced in my RCA cables for my DVD player, so instead of having XM i have an "aux in" i could have done the same as you and hooked a switch to keep XM, but i never use it

So you kill the nav screen when you do this mod?? or that's a risk?

no, that only happens when you use those adapters you buy from soundgate that plug directly into the headunit

This thread is geared towards 05 TSX's with NAV and XM. They may have the same "issue" but the head units are all different!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't want TSXers getting confused with pictures of TL, MDX's, Ford escorts, etc...

In my quest to get it to work in my car not 1 TLer, or MDXer or whatever came to assist us with 05TSX Nav and XM. Now you want to tell me it's the same? Where were you 4 months ago?

If you didn't see the first page, it contains a diagram of a plug from a TSX electrical troubleshooting manual. If you can prove that is the same diagram that is found in a TL elecrtical troubleshooting diagram then maybe we can make a thread for all of us. But as of now, this is a TSX problem solving thread and any pictures of TLs or anything else is just going to confuse the members that have the same problem I had.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you unplug the white plug on the bottom of the 05 TSX NAV head unit, you will loose touch screen functions. Your screen will still work, your radio will still work (minus XM), but you will not be able to control anything by the touch screen. I unpluged it then turned the car on to see what would happen before I cut any wires. You won't blow anything as long as you only cut the wires suggested at the beggining of this thread.

Now please don't argue how many cars in the world have this problem!

If your comments aren't directed specifically towards the 05TSX with NAV and XM please refrain from posting on this thread.

PLEASE!

if i wasn't lazy i would take a pic of the TL and MDX harness, and you would see they are identical, even the pin out is.

and to answer you question, i wasn't interested in doing this 4 months ago, just decided to do it on my car a few weeks ago

here is a schmatic of the TL

if you can read the number you can see it;s
14= L-
6= L+
13= R-
5= R+

Then I guess it does apply to them. I wonder why no one else ever said anything about it. Did you use this thread to help you get it to work or did you just go for broke like I did?

I believe I read they was an extension harness from Honda that plugged between the xm box in the trunk on the TSX and the factory connnetor. It could be used at the nav or at the xm. It is the same as the Y connectory but just a single harness(no Y). Does anybody know the part number and if this does match up for sure. Would like to add the input without cutting the factory harness.

Would like to add the input without cutting the factory harness.
This would be sweet!! That's exactly what I want to do... I don't want to cut the factory harness...

Does anybody know of the part number that has the 14 pin connector? There is the 'Y" cable that a few people bought but also there is a straight extension cable. Does anybody know that part number so I can order it. Thanks

Quick Reply: Finally I have XM and my auxillary input on my 05TSeXw/Navi!!!!!!
