DVD Players - Does brand really matter if you just want to play DVD's?

In researching DVD players, I have come across some off-brand (at least I have not really heard of them) DVD players for reasonable prices (i.e. Legacy, Pyle, Lanzar, Power Acoustic, XO-vision). There seems to be a decent gap in price between these players and the name-brand DVD players. My main purpose is to play DVD's, nothing special. I also want a unit that will fit in my center console (see pic - borrowed from another thread).

My question is, what do the more expensive units offer that a) I need b) I should pay for or are the off-brands going to give me what I need? Secondly, does anyone have a suggestion on a reasonably priced DVD player that will fit in the center console. I saw the Blaupunkt ME-3 around, but I am not sure it will fit in the console. The other two models I am considering are the Clarion VS755 and the Kenwood KD-VS210P. All responses appreciated.

Thanks for the help.
