In-Dash Screen Recommendations?

avic-z1 is a good choice, the navi is on the harddrive, so you can have navi and play cd's at the same time. the avic-d3 is a nice alternative (cheaper, msrp 1000 bucks) and eclipse has a double din TV similar to the z1

I just put a D3 in my truck, lovin it so far. Scored it for just under 800 shipped too.
The next unit out is the avic Z2, if you want to wait for it, that will be the top of the line. The D3 is no slouch tho, and the ipod and satelite radio interface is to die for.

I have a z1 in my car, no complaints here so far....I don't use the DVD player as much as I thought i would....
Having the Navi and playing a cd is nice, but do you want to pay the extra money just for that feature...

The new AVIC-D3 is awsome. The user interface have fewer features but it's layed out much better. The buttons and screen bezel have a black piano finish. The touchsceen is much easier to use while driving. The internal gyro updates very fast which illiminates much need to hook up a speed sense wire.
But if you want all the "shenanigans".... grab a Z1 or Z2. Not much diff between the two.
Salutations.

Agreed on the D3. The touchscreen itself is amazing, beats my new TSX navi. The iPod / sat radio integration is to DIE for.
I find myself 'borrowing' the highlander with the D3 in it a little more now.

I see all you guys are talking about is Pioneer. Fortunately, they have many companies out there that will accommodate most peoples price range with the features in mind.
Personally Itsajay, since double din fits in perfectly in our 2G TL/CL, I reckon double dins for a clean look. I just picked up a Kenwood Exelon DDX-8017 for $389.00, used unit but in perfect condition. Has it all, navi, 5Volt preouts, touchscreen, 5.1 surround sound built in and of course DVD and iPOD compatible.
I did my research and this unit serves its purpose for my needs, I suggest you do the same.
Alpine IVA-W200 is also good.
Pioneer Avic D3 is sweet.
Eclipse AVN5500 is excellent quality. Eclipse has a strong reputation.
Kenwood DDX series are all great. You can get a 7" screen. DDX 6019
These four companies based my choice since one of the things I was looking for was quality and an credential reputation.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck!!

Clarion's new navigation system is definitly awesome.. I'd check it out.
I saw it in action and damn the thing is cool, and FAST! No waiting, just instant (or almost) display of the information... and it's very complete.

ill second the pioneer D2 or D3. F the N3... flip-outs suck and are hideous in my opinion. double-din all the way. Alpine w200 is also great.
Ive installed many many in-dash units and these are the best bang for the buck.
especially if you dont wanna watch DVDs up front (who does that, honestly?)

I don't like the flip outs too. Aren't the flip outs usually single din? If so, it has that space where you put your discs. I don't like the feel of it. Well... for those in dash recommendations, is there anyway to hide it it won't attract bad elements if you know what I mean?

i have an "indash" that's not really noticable to the public... actually my cousin drives an 02 TL and didn't even know i had anything different in my car till i opened it...
if i wanted navi, it would be an extra 400 bucks

- The problem with the D3 is the lack of a second disk slot making u constantly play musical chairs with the nav/music/dvd disks. Fortunately the now up-tp-par Ipod adapter (cd-i200) more then makes up for that shortcoming.
And while the Z2 is technically Pioneers flagship model it is a carry over from the Z1 with only minor software changes made to it. The D3, on the other hand is a complete revision of the D2 and thusly can use the 07 interfaces such as the before mentioned CD-I200 and the CD-BTB200. Pioneers "flagship" is left with the ND-BT1 bluetooth and the half baked CD-IB100II ipod adapter.
The AVIC-D3 is certainly no Alpine but for right around 1k it's definitely one to look at.
