I am still building my system up and today I bought the front component speakers. I got Alpine Type R's last years models because i got a great deal for them, and bought 2 way 6 1/2 for the rear doors. Also ordered a 50 x 4 amp for this. Will the speakers fit in the doors. I have a 01 Tl if that make any differ. Now I have decieded to keep the factory head unit.

I have a 99 tl and I noticed that a 6 1/2 coaxial will fit in both the front and rear, but with a component set, I had to use a 5 1/4. I know this may sound stupid, but a 6 1/2 coaxial is smaller than a 6 1/2 component. The 6 1/2 component was too big. After I installed it, I couldn't get the door back on! I decided to install the 6 1/2 Polk DS6 ( coaxial) in all the doors ( front and rear). I had a store by-pass the factory EQ and run the all the Polk's off an Eclipse 50 x 4 amp. It sounds great. It's really loud, clear and it does not over power the stock sub. I am now debating whelter or not to install a bazooka tube and possibly a pair of tweeters. I used to have a pair of tweeters installed along with the Polk's and it over powered the stock sub. I think an 8' inch bazooka tube, Polk DS6 ( in all the doors, running off an 50 x 4 amp ), and a pair of tweeters would make for a sweet sound!!!! Good luck with your work.

Well Right now I got a Pair of Clarion tweeters and a pair of Alpine 10's and it makes a loud sound but not sweet. I ordered a 65 x 4 amp today. I am just gonna take my subs out for a while and listen to the alpine speakers. Is there any mods to the door that can me done to make the 6 1/2 components fit. By the way what components did u use? and how big was the magnet structure.

Hey, I used Polk. Sorry but I cannot remember the model, I know it was DX something? ( what ever their DX 6 1/2 component series was) I'm not sure of any mods for the door. The speaker WILL fit in the door, but you will have to make a spacer for it. The magnet is a little big, so you will need a spacer for added room. But after the speaker is in, the door will not go back on. It sticks out too much for the cover that is on the inside of the door panel.
May I make a suggestion? You could to use the Polk DX6 or any 6 1/2 coaxial for that matter and disconnect the tweeter that is on the coaxial and then use the tweeter you have. I thought about doing that. This way you would still have a 6 1/2 speaker in the front doors (instead of a standard 5 1/4 component) and you could add the tweeters that you already have! I think it would work....I might try it myself.

I dunno if that would work or not. But you know we could just cut the plastic behind the door where the cloth is for the speaker.
