Clean, rich bass

Clean, rich bass
I've searched and searched, though it seems every topic doesn't pertain to my question. Just a little FYI, I've got a 99 TL w/navi. Yesterday, I installed a Pioneer DEH-7700MP. I've already got all the wires I need ran to my trunk, now the only thing I need to do is buy some subs and an amp. Basically, I'm asking for suggestions to run a nice setup that'll deliver clean bass that won't rattle the hell out of my trunk. I'm thinking 2 10s in a bandpass box, but I have no idea what RMS or whatever range I should go for to get the best results. Also, I'm looking to spend around $500-$600 for everything (subs, amp, enclosure). I want decent thump, but I also don't want to be heard coming from a mile away. Clarity is my main goal.

I suggest a sealed enclosure for accuracy/clarity. Two tens in a bandpass will definitely rattle the hell out of your trunk.
The RMS will depend on the subs you choose.
To give you a basis of comparison, I have a single 12” Alpine S-Type in a sealed enclosure…I’m running about 90w RMS (accidentally bought the dual 4 ohm instead of the dual 2 ohm…my amp doesn’t put out much a 8 ohms bridged). The sound is deep, full, and the way I have it tuned, I feel it’s perfectly balanced with the rest of the system. If I crank the volume on my HU, I feel the sub in my back and my chest, it tickles my nose hair, it rattles the crap out of my exhaust and my license plate…and I’m not even pushing that speaker at its optimum RMS. The amp and the speaker are less than $300 together.
I think you will be very surprised at how much of a difference even a low power sub can make.

Sealed enclosure should yield better SQ over a bandpass. Also, $5-600 for amp, box and subs isn't very much. You may have to rethink what you are going to do.

For $600 but for amp subs and box look into 2 JL W1v2 12s with a JL e1400 amp.
I 12" w3v2 is usually enough for alot of customers. Just did a friends TSX with a 12w3v2 in a 1.25 cuft sealed box and it bangs for him nice clean rich bass. The amp is also a JL e1400
If its a custom made bandpass for the subs then thats fine but ifs its a prefad bandpass
A custom bandpass box usually cost around $280 to $$$$$$

There's no need to head straight to dual subs unless you want competition style noise and thump. Stick to 1 sub, a high quality 10" will do you right. Get one of the better JL's or similar and a 250RMS amp and you can stick to that budget, which is a little thin. Helps that you're already wired and all you have to do is stick the pieces in place. (No cost for wiring or installation if necessary.)

Yeah, I agree -- unless you really need a ton of noise, you might be surprised how much boom you can get out of one sub. And it does not have to be large. My experience is that you should get a quality amp, though, and try not to cheap out too much there.
One of the amps that I used was labled a "25w/ch" but measured for more. Then, I bridged it for the sub, which increases the power. I guesstimated that I was probably getting 150 to 200w out of a "25w" amp. I had previously bought a cheap 35w amp which just couldn't do the job. So, you have to know how to read between the lines and figure out the REAL watts you'll be getting.
Oh yeah, bridging a 2ch amp effectively doubles your power. How many subs (and what kind) affects what amp you should look for. I'm probably not the best person to advise on the different possibilities, though, as I always liked bridging one sub.
Another advantage of sticking to a modest sealed sub is that you'll have more trunk space.
