CL-S upgrade
Ok, i'm looking to upgrade the sound system in my 03 CL-S. I've decided on an Alpine headunit, but i'm undecided on front speakers, amplifier, and 12" sub. I'm looking to spend around a grand on the whole thing. I already have the box for the sub, and the headunit is about $250. So I need some help choosing components for the fronts, an amp, and a 12". I'm looking for sound quality over anything, and I'm not looking for insane bass. I want something that sounds clean. I want to have it installed at best buy because i have some gift certificates from there, so anything sold there would be good. Thanks.

Personally, i would not get the system installed at best buy. I think if you take it to a professional shop, you would be happier. As far has sub would go, i think you might be happy with a singl 10" if you are not crazy for bass. I would forget about the rear speakers and buy some solid components up front.

I have a tough time recommending any amp or speakers from Best Buy, they don't carry the better gear from any of their lines.
I would get the DLS UP6 in front and MW112 in the back.

MSRP on the UP6 is $400. The MW112 is a magnesium-coned sub and MSRP is around $200. I run the 10" version in my car and a few members have the MW110 and MW112. (Sergeremi also runs the MW110).
But I don't sell at MSRP...
Anyone seriously interested email me at acurazine at avincar.com

yeah, i wasn't planning on getting rear speakers. Will the DLS UP6 work well with the stock amp? Also do they fit perfectly? I thought I remember reading somewhere that nobody makes a perfect fit for the CLS.

Isn't shipping yet.
Biggest problem with DLS speaks above the UP series is that the chambered tweeters are too deep for most locations, such as the CL-S. THe TSX is OK, but most cars aren't.

The stock amp doesn't like most passive xovers.
Just hope it can keep up with the subs.

Remember those Alpine SP-X F13M disco'd components that I liked so much a year ago when you could still get them? They had a Scan-Speak made chambered tweeter.

damn, what's up w/all these speaker companies playin' musical chairs w/their products? Just looked at MB Quart's website again. The owned by directed now or something? They have links to "crunch" and "hifonics". I love how the website says "still made in germany," but for some reason that's not too comforting.

I'm not really sure what you mean. Couldn't I use the stock amp to power the speaker set and have another amp in the trunk for the sub? I don't know very much about car audio. ie passive crossovers?

Well the stock amp doesn not produce enough power to run those speakers i believe. Well they'd work but i dont think they'd sound too hot. El Dude, put me in my place if need be

I thought they were only to be used with the stock amp? And a bigger amp would make them sound bad
I think we're talking about two different speakers now. I was talking about the Avincar speaker set with the stock amp and a separate amp/sub in the trunk.

My question about the Avincar upgrade is I keep reading that it's not important to replace the rears. Why does the kit include 6x9s? Would it sound good with just the front portion of the kit and a sub in the trunk?

the rears are there for the midbass, which is alright.

Well if you are building a system, like the one El Dude has layed out, he seems to have all the frequencies covered.
He stated that they are not the best speakres but they are the best fitted for the stock amp. So that being said, the whole setup + a sub should sound brilliant.
