Carputer

Hey guys I'm thinking about doing a carputer, I was just wondering if anyone had any good info on then links and such. Also for sound I was going to try and setup a 5.1 system, but I was wondering what would be entailed in such a system and I keep coming up with a lack of information, such as what type of sound card with what output would be needed to connect to the speakers, I assume some amp/receiver would be needed too . . . any input would be great . . . thanks guys

What were your components for the carputer?

2nd gen.

i have a 7" touchscreen lcd, via epia tc10000 motherboard/processor, 256 meg ddr RAM, 20 gig laptop hard drive, slim slot load dvd drive, mini keyboard and mouse, usb gps, serial obdII reader, and i have it running through the AUX of an aftermarket headunit in my glove compartment.

i took the stock headunit out and made a custom faceplate for the lcd to fit and look stock.

what kind of material did you use for your faceplate?

Why didn't you use GPS software instead of the plug-in?

i put the cpu behind the monitor the space where the stock headunit goes is pretty big once you empty it out but im thinking about building a custom case and mounting it under the passenger seat.

pics are coming soon.

my car is in the shop. i hit a guardrail a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry to hear that about your car.

Isn't there a AM/FM signal card that can plug into the computer to pick local radio stations?

I nearly tore my bumper off yesterday from backing out of a spot in my office's garage. The right side of the bumper caught on one of the concrete supports. It wasn't as bad as the sound it made, but I will ultimately need to get it repainted...maybe the side fender, too.

yea you can get a am/fm card to get radio stations but i've never tried it.

car antennae's are far better for reception.

i'll post a pic of my damage ($7000+) if someone can host it for me...

^you still run everything on the Dell? I'm thinking about building a mini computer and sticking it under the driver's seat or in truck where the ski pass-through is located. I've been researching and thinking about it for about 8-9 months now.

Is your Carputer still working ok?
