Omega buys most of their alarms from Nutech, which also produces most of the DEI alarms (viper, sidewinder, python). This does NOT mean that they are identical alarms, only that the reliability factor is fairly decent. The only major drawback is in finding a good dealer if you ever have problems. Otherwise decent stuff.

For the time being (the next six months to a year) I would not buy a Clifford/Avital. Not because they are bad alarms, but because they will not continue to exist on the market in their current form much beyond that time. If three years from now you have a problem, the only solution will be to switch alarms. While they certainly have their drawbacks (poor range, ugly ass remotes, etc..) I would stick with one of the major DEI names for now. (All of the snakes). Once DEI fully integrates the Clifford and Avital units into their lineup, I would have no concerns about them. But that will take a while. Another option depending on where you live is VSE. I have installed any of their alarms since they reemerged on the scene two years ago, but their past alarms were some of the best ever made. Beware of Ungo (a must sell for every Clarion dealer reguardless of alarm quality). Alpine makes a decent alarm. But with an 85% market share, DEI remains your safest bet. Don't hesitate to e-mail me with any questions about alarms or audio that you might have.

Certainly there are a lot of Clifford/Avital fans out there. Not a bad choice. At the moment, Code still derives over 90% of their business from OEM work. Unfortunately, that leaves them about four years behind the rest of the industry as far as technology is concerned. Their last two MAJOR breakthroughs cost them millions in patent infringement lawsuits (from DEI) that they lost. That is the money that funded Issa's run at the senate (the president of DEI), which he lost. Code's latest breakthrough may very well be something exceptional, but I am never one to be the guinnea pig. If you have upwards of a year to wait, their new software, plug and go, platform may be awesome. Otherwise, stick with someone who will be around to take care of any problems. MOST IMPORTANTLY, over 95& of alarm failures are a result of poor installation (when the wiring looks like a rat's nest, beware!). So make sure that you work with a SPECIALTY shop that you can trust.

I say Clifford....But don't take my word for it go to some of the better audio shops around and ask the installers what they use... I bet they say Clifford.. Also i'd read up in some of the car audio and security mags it may help you decide who you want to believe.
