Can the ecu fry after installing a pioneer flip-out screen?
i have a car audio store. i installed a pioneer avx-7480dvd flip-out screen with custom dash in my friend's 2003 cl-s non-navi automatic. 2 weeks later he was going to start his car and all of his gear lights starting flashing. he couldnt drive the car so he had it towed to a local acura dealership. first they told him that they are not going to work on his car ( that he has completly payed off) because he changed the factory radio. they did a quick diagnostic check and said that the ecu fryed because the some wires were cut and so on. they are basically saying the pioneer screen is messing everything up. first, nothing was cut and a factory plug was used, no splicing. no fuses popped and the tv works. the car is somewhat drivable but hesitates and runs very sluggish. they said there are two orange wires and the wrong one was used. orange wire on the screen is illumination. what the hell does that have to do with the ecu?
can someone please help me with this problem. i feel he is getting the run-around with the bullshit acura warranty.
if anyone knows anything about this please respond asap.
thanks
everyone.

Tell him to go to another acura dealership. Dealer would have to prove what the Pioneer screen does to fry the ECU.
Side note - It is interesting that we have 2 currently installed Pioneer screens and typical tranny failure syndroms.

Would they cover the tranny under warranty if you remove the Pioneer? I dont think you should hold reliable. If the owner have to pay out of his pocket then the dealer has to prove the specific reason why the tranny or whatever failed cuz of the Pioneer head unit. The owner can take Acura to small claim court to settle it.

Take the car to another Acura dealership . DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREEN . He is in the process of being ass-raped . HOWEVER , if the installer really did splice into , or even just use the Ecu's wires to power up the screen or whatnot , he's fucked . Then he has to take it to the installer w/ a lawyer .

aftermarket cannot void warrenty
In california, aftermarket stereo's and other such aftermarket devices cannot void your warrenty UNLESS it directly caused the malfunction. Thus a correctly installed dvd player would have no way to mess with the tranny and thus they cannot say that it was the cause of the problem. Now if they connected the dvd player into the tranny power lead, then you are in trouble, even though the dvd player dosent use that much power. I would search to see if your state has similar laws.
