I will say that yes it does hit harder with 2 12w3 (rather than my just single) but more important it is cleaner. I have both 12w3v2- d4
so the ohm load is perfect right now

Let me just say it is nice to have friends in the right places. Everything this weekend cost me $200 for that new w3.....
I returned the box I had it in, it was $65 and the current box I got would be $175 for anybody but I got it for free! on top of that I paid (its brushed aluminum face with black carpet and grills, I will take pics and post.
and then I didnt pay for anymore wiring or install. I think I owe my friend at least dinner! lol

Like I said before, the box is huge, but its really nice, I like the Brushed Alum. and I really dont use my trunk. Sometime I will probably end up upgrading anyways to a single 12w6.. anyways, enjoy. and please dont tear my ass up, I know its not as nice as most of yours

DAYUM!! Is that Box pushed all the way back? I'm just wondering how that thing fit through the opening. How much is the Bass Knob? I thought about getting one myself.

yeah the box is big but its pretty nice. It is not pushed all the way back. It hits the tower bars of the car so its not like I could really do anything. there is about 1 foot of space between the back of the trunk and my seats so I mounted the amp on the back of the box. At that point of the pic I probably could have pushed it back slightly. But yes its big. The bass knob I got for free but its around $30. If you have JL you have to at least have the 500/1 amp (at least in the slash series) the 250/1 wont work. The bass knob is great, I have the amp set where I can completely control the bass from the bass knob and I dont have to touch my head unit at all if I want to adjust the sound, I really am impressed.

Yes I've heard both, I've owned both, and I just switched from a dual bandpass, to dual sealed enclosure, though it's mostly based on taste as to what you prefer.

Anyway, Nice setup

Thank you

since you have personally heard/owned both can you be specific about gains and losses you personally heard with the boxes. And were they the same amp and sub(s) with the two different boxes?

Sorry but nobody ever answers that question and I think that if they are the same amp(s)//sub(s) and you tried them in two different boxes (sealed vs. ported) it would be great to hear your perspective

I may just have to invest in the bass knob. I would love to have that extra control. I have a 500/1 and 450/4, and damn they look pretty together.

I've heard and owned many different ported and sealed enclosures. The only way that I can really describe a difference is the tone of the base. Ported seems to be more of a raspy, air like sound, because of the air that it's pushing out the ports. It also depends on the size of the magnet, and the enclosure as to how much air the sub is moving. I had tried my last system (2 10's) in both types, and that made me decide to put my new (2 12's) in a sealed box. My friend on the other hand just switched his 12's from a sealed, to a ported, because of trunk size issues in his new trunk. Basically, it's all about taste, as to which type of base you prefer. I myself am more partial to sealed, and my fiberglass enclosure will also be a sealed enclosure, when I make it in the winter. Myself, and most of my friends think that ported or bandpass just ruins the sound and hit of the bass. But like I said, it's all about taste. When I was a I loved the sound of bandpass, till I compared it with sealed. All about what you like, and what you listen to

No, I am saying that when I was a to car audio, 3-4 years ago, many systems ago, that I liked bandpass, because I heard it, and bought my first dual 10" bandpass enclosure, and thought that, that was what bass sounded like, because most home stereo units use bandpass ported boxes for subs. Until I heard what a sealed enclosure sounded like, and to me it sounded a lot cleaner, because the air displacement moves different, and doesn't resonate coming out of the port tube. As I said b4, it's all about taste, they're just different sounding hits of bass. I personally think that enclosed just hits and sounds cleaner.
