Audio Question (Subs)
Alright, just upgraded from the old 500X to the 300/4. Clean, crisp, more, modulated power is where it is at. To hell with Rockford Fosgate, I should have gone with JL from the start. The comps stay crisp now, even at high volumes, but they are drowning out eh eclipse subs. Plus those subs only go to 26 or so Hz, and they are pused by a POS fosgate. SO what kind of amp/sub should I do? Cleanliness is key...I hate SPL cars, SQ is the way to do it. This setup is for me, no shows or anything, I want clean, tight resposive bass, and I want it in a small space. What amp/sub(s) should I go to. The 87's use only 1 cube each and that is very nice. They are wired in parallel, so the amp sees 2 ohms and puts out 500 W RMS...figure 250 to each speaker, and they can take 300 RMS...is the math right? So would an amp do it, just subs do it, or are both limiting my deep response? I would like to stick with 10's for the space and my understanding that they are cleaner. But I am open to anything.
Also, what kiond of wattage can the stock alternator deliver? I got about 800 W (RMS) running off of it now, and I would not like to have to get it rewound, but if I have to...

I think you are on the right track with JL. I have been a MTX nut for years and recently, I got a JL 300/4. In my opinion, no comparison. It is just like you say. I have it in my MDX running a pair of Image 6 1/2" Chameleons and they just sing. I have a pair of 5 1/4" Chameleons in my TL running off an MTX 6304 and they will just not get very loud without breaking up. Do not get me wrong, the MTX amps are great. I have got 3 of them. But, the JL's are just a different class. Different price class as well.
For a sub amp, I would stick with JL. Depending on how much power you need, the 250/1 or 500/1 should do a great job. I am going to put a 250/1 in my MDX. I only have a single 10" Image sub and it is so clean and tight. Right now, it only has 150 watts from the 300/4.
For subs, it all depends on money. Again, JL makes some of the best. I have read a couple of articles on the W7 and they provide tons of bass. But, you need a deep wallet for any of JL's stuff.
Good luck and keep us posted.

YEah W6 v2 and W7 v2 are just $$$ its $570 for ONE W7...maybe just run these eclipses with a better amp, maybe borrow my buddy's 500/1 hopefully they are not running too hard, he managed to cook one...but the place gave him one back free under warranty...nice guys at Innovative Car Audio, they just need to sell JL now that is all. So if the 500/1 is 500W RMS at 4 ohms then running 2 4 ohm speakers in paralell will give me 250 per right? since that amp does 500 anywhere from 1.5-4 ohms...man I love regualted power...

You are correct. 250 per sub.
Those JL subs are a pretty penny. More than I want to spend right now on subs. I have a single Kicker 10 L7 running off my MTX 6500d in my TL now. It is plenty of bass for me. I am like you more SQ than SPL. I just love good clean bass.

first of all u got any pictures of the CDA7998 in the car.
I use to have a Fosgate 300x and the sound was kinda ****ty and then I upgraded to the Power 550x and its so much cleaner. People even have quoted that i must have one expensive amp in there to produce such clarity. but the JL is a better amp though i was thinkin of gettin a 300/4 but told it wouldnt be much differ so for now ill keep the power.

I will take pics, somehow, someone chipped the paint off of the face adapter they made, and I need to at least touch it up cause it looks bad, other than that the guys at innovative did a great job of mounting that deck. Pics soon.
