I have the technical specs for both the audio system and the Onstar system of the 2003 TL's. Will post if anyone else wants them. (Have to find a scanner)

In my 2003 TLS w/nav there are two different types of mute for the audio system. The mute that occurs when the NAV voice is speaking (fronts only), and the mute that occurs when the ONSTAR system (both front and rear). I have nokia car kit that has a mute wire (I think it grounds out, or sends 12V)

Was wondering if anyone else has ever tried triggering the ONSTAR mute via any external means? This mute is sent from the A4 connector of the ONSTAR controller.

Any brave soals willing to tap it with an meter and check it out?

I've got till Saturday to figure this one out. Has ANYONE messed around with the On Star unit or even tried to do this before and failed. Anyone?.....Any response would be appreciated.

Only the 2003 model have OnStar...so most of us here won't even have a clue

OK.....I was able to get the same results using a different methiod. The nokia car kit has a mute wire that drops to - when the phone is in use. I just hooked up a normally closed relay to the remote power of the HU, when the nokia drops to - then the relay becomes open turning the HU off, then when the phone conversation is over, it returns to closed, thus turning the HU back on!! Works great!!!!
