Anyone upgrade their alternator???

I am thinking about this to resolve my light dimming issue and give my amps some more power. Anyone done this?? I went to an alternator shop and they quoted me like $350 to rebuild the stock one and bump it up to about 165 amps. That would be plenty of power and best of all the unit is still the stock size, but that seems pricey.

I never trust a rebuild alternator. All they doo is take it apart and wind more copper coils around it. More than often they'd screw it up. I'd rather get a high output alt that's built for that. But they don't come cheap

with the amps you have I wouldnt worry about upgradeing the alt, Just upgrade undehood battery and maybe add a second small one in the trunk.
