Question Anyone know when Steve is getting more Video Navi kits?

Haven't seen any definite post on this, so sorry if it's already been discussed and I missed the thread.

In any case, I remember Steve saying that he was thinking of posting the instructions on making your own; anyone know what's come of that? If I remember correctly, someone said that the kits were in short supply because of he couldn't get the special wiring for them?

If anyone knows anything, I'm sure I like several others out there who would like to buy one.

With my last order of decoders my supplier only shipped 2 out of 10 ordered. Still they charged me for all 10! In the mean time, I've stopped taking new orders. Didn't want to promise what I can't deliver. I do understand many people want Video On My Navi kits and that's why I was thinking on providing the build your own instructions. Although I'm not sure if this is such a good idea, because of difficulty locating parts, like the 4PDT switch and the number of assembly questions I might get (I'm often swamped with emails already :} ).

I'm sorry that I can't give you a firm date for shipping again, but do know I need to find another source for decoders. While we are waiting, I'm not idile - I'm trying to engineer around different types of decoders.

Thank you for your patience.
Steve

Steve,

Thanks for the reply and explanation. I'm not sure how many people would be willing, but I would be willing to send you a deposit, which would help you cover the exisitng cost of the backorder, and possibly buy a larger decoder quantity upfront. Of course, this would be assuming you find a distributor that has the decoders to sell you. But if everyone who wanted a kit paid you up front (or just a good size deposit), you would have better negotiating power with the distributor on pricing (and of course, the more you can purchase, the more they're willing to work with you).

Again, I realize it doesn't solve the initial problem (getting the decoders), but it was just a thought.

Hi Steve,
I agree with "akelley" . he has a good idea. its not bad to take the deposite and then get a deal on the wires or parts from some other dealer or person.

thanks

I hear you guys. My 1st thought was to get connector that plugs into the decoder and let you guys buy your own decoders. After checking with Mitsumi they stated none of these connectors are located in the US. It will take special order from Japan and require like 1,000 parts minimum. So now back to square one... finding more decoders and consider taking a deposit.

I'm almost ready to spill the beans on a new design too. Let's just say it has integrated TV tuner, RF modulator, 2 input A/V switcher, rear video output, wireless remote control and mounts next to navi computer for ~$400. One more technical obsticle to solve, but this will replace the hard to find decoder.

$400 for everything? (Not counting rear monitors, I know...) Will you be posting the instructions, etc.? I'm in TX and can't really swing by and drop my car off for 2 days. ;-) I'd gladly pay you for the instructions, however.

Also, can you post any specs you know about the Nav system? I'm curious, what kind of hardware does it run on? (Something we'd see in a home computer?) What kind of OS does it run on? Anybody know how to copy maps on the thing? (For the '99, which has a swappable hard disk, that is.)

Just wanted to bump this up in the hopes that someone (Steve, Street ??) might shed some light on the status of this. I know everyone is asking so perhaps it might not be a bad idea to just drop us a quick line on the board...

Thanks.

Steve,

Count me in too. I am willing either to put a deposit for the Video on my Navi kit or build my own kit.

Probably never...You can build it your self or get someone to build it for you. I would go to StreetEffectz in a month or so, he should be building and selling them soon...
