The stock headunit doesnt need to be "compatible", so to speak, with the panasonic stuff. All you would need the head unit to do is play the audio from the panasonic equipment and that is done through an RF modulator, or if you already have an alpine cd changer, through an auxiliary audio interface made for it.
The new panasonic equipment will operate seperately from the stock headunit. The stock headunit has nothing to do with the new setup, its just needed for audio, which is very easy to do as I mentioned above.

That's right Car Toys and most other places are just trying to take more cash from you by getting you to buy a new head unit...I use an FM modulator in my car to play the audio for my TV's...
