another 6X9 question
I have read every 6x9 post on here...but still not convinced.
I really dont feel like taking the doors off my 30000 car.....and the highs and mids are good enough for me. as far as bass.....how much of a difference am i going to notice if i drop in a pair of Alpine Type S 6x9's...(those seem to get the most credit on here for being the best bang for the buck)
I listen to mostly rap and hip hop, R and B, etc (boomy bass)
but Rock, alternative and techno also get played....so i need to have the flexabilty of tight bass too!!
ORRRRRR....Is it just not worth it....and should i just leave it the way it is...

I've taken the doors off of $100k USD cars... the doors come off just the same.

Having had the stock 6x9's in for a day off of a JL 300/4, I believe their bigest shortcoming is their lousy suspension (cloth suround) that will deteriorate quickly and not allow loud playing long travel. Their graphite-injection molded cones are good knockoffs of old infinity Kappas.
Better speakers usually are stiffer and weigh more. That takes more power. As soon as you appreciably upgrade the 6x9's and use hem as your source of sub-bass, you will run out of power. I have the MB Quart 6x9's on a JL Audio 300/4, and I don't listen to he stuff you listen to (often, anyway) and these 6x9's lose it a bit at highest volumes with artificail bass like on Sarah McLachlan and other pop music. I just fade it a click forward and I'm fine, but your music is going to expose every flaw a free-air 6x9 "sub-woofer" can have. There is no right way to do something stupid, and setting up a system to play rap, hip-hop, and techno with the factory amp and aftermarket 6x9's in unfortunately in that category.
But none of my other posts have convinced you either... silly me.

So, do you think having a box in the trunk and removing your door panels is somehow beneath you? or not "mature"? I'm not following your thinking here(or what I understand from the comments you made).......
6x9s are not going to reproduce bass from "boomy bass" songs very well (very well from most people's perspective)...
You could get creative and add an amp and try some JL 6.5" subs in a small enclosure in the rear deck.

I replaced my stock 6x9's with Alpines, but I also have a 10 in the truck. Why did I replace them? Cause I can...Did it make any difference at all? NO...Until I get another amp to drive the 6x9's and the rear doors, those speakers are pretty much useless hooked up to the stock amp.
