I'd relocate just to get your spare back! You'll only ever get 1 flat without a spare, after that you'll carry one.

Ah, I see now. JL should run pretty cool. even warm-they are built like a BSH. I keep my audisons mounted on 1/4 fibre board shaped to the bottom of the trunk. I'm more concerned about movement; up, down sideways than heat.

So, your Sub is run off the JL, too? That might be why it runs pretty warm. Dunno. I always went with a separate amp for a sub. JL sub is what 2ohm?

My gear is spread out all over the FB (see my signature)-then covered with a shaped FB 'lid' in 2 sections over that, pretty stealth-except for the sub, and the amps get warm to the touch-but nothing disconcerning even in summer. What power cable size are you running? Again, even warm, good amps are designed to take the confinement. Does JL offer a cooling system?

im running 4 guage wires, for power and ground. the JL amp does not have a cooling system. but i read in the manual that they say its ok to mount underneath a seat if there is atleast 1inch of clearance above the top of the amp, so i dont think it should be an issue if i have it in the spare tire compartment.

Well, keep the spare. I wouldn't travel a mile, let alone 2 hrs. without one. And your amp will shutdown before serious over-heating, and then you will know about the placement. Just don't 'drape' anything over it.

^^^ Was just going to recommend mounting to the back of the seat, much better for the heat to dissipate
