The easiest way to do it is with a LOC. You can just splice the trigger off of the amp's remote or run one with a switch. The amp would need it's own power from the battery though obviously

What I did was very simple and owrked out well (when i bought my car new):
I bought an amp that accepeted line level inputs (no need for a remote wire) and only had to run 3 wires - one from the battery to the amp for power, another from the amp to ground, and a third from the stock sub speaker wire to the line level input on the amp - very easy. Of course you will need an additional sub too, but that is self explanitory. I even left the stock sub going - it sounded more balanced than just the aftermarket sub, plus the stock amp didn't need to be bypassed (load from the stock sub) - very easy. About 2 hours of work for the whole thing - at least 90 minutes of that was running the power wire from the battery to the back.
