PS he also said that its not Acuras fault that cdrs wont play in my car. Acura has nothing to do with the cdr companies. I told him that i dont expect this from an Acura, he just said that BS.

WOW your dealer is an ass. They know that some old HU units are defective. I just got my HU replaced and I been trying the old CDRs that never played in my old HU. Every singel cd plays like its suppose to. I'm so amazed. Tell your sorry ass dealer that you know atleast two people who had their HU replaced under warrenty and everything is working right. Try another dealer if you can. I hate them for giving you such a hardtime, Gatorland Acura in Gainesville replaced mine no questions ask. Goodluck to you.

Is your car still under warrenty? What year is it? I don't know why he said he's going to call someplace.....Acura company is the place where he would get the new HU. Oh and remember to get the new Radio code if you get your HU replace (very important).

I told him about this site and we the important issues that we discuss are HU and transmission. His reply: The site i only check out is acura.com. I also mentioned that my cousins 01 accord and my brother 99 civic plays cdrs like nothing. His reply: We have nothing to do with cdr manufacturer. I also mentioned that someone in Florida(you) had his HU replaced and it works perfect. His reply: Il try to get you a new HU if thatll make you happy but it wont guarantee itll work. The thing is that there is only 1 acura dealer in OKC, which sucks for me. But he said he'll give me a call on monday before 2. He has to report this to some person to see if they let him order a new HU. After it was all over and i was on my way out, both of the guys were acting like they were my best friend. Or i think they were or something. Have to wait Monday and see what happens. You guys know anything else i should tell him if i dont get my new HU?

thanks

Did you try talking to the service manager? First guy I talked to was just a serivce rep and he kept telling me cdrs scratch the lens on my cd player (BS). Then I insisted on talking to the service manager and he had the parts guy order me a new HU under warrenty no questions asked. Usually the serivce manager wants to please you more then the other guys. If they refuse try another dealership even if you have to drive a little further. The dealership in Floridas usually are in hot competitions and My dealer threw in a car wash, vac, tire inspection, and filled my fluids while i was getting the HU replaced.

If these two guys were the service manager, i have no idea who they are going to call to get the HU. My dealer order the part from Acura and then send them back the core they replaced. Its under warrenty. I might be different for your 01, I have another friend who will be replacing his HU on the 99TL, no questions asked from dealer.

Umm IMO your dealer sucks and likes to play games with you. If its covered by your warrenty I doubt they will put in a used HU. Wouldn't hurt to ask them about it. Hope everything works out for you as it did for me. I'm 99% sure that your new HU will play those damn cdrs.

about that 2K1NighthawkTL, I was talking to one of the service guys and he asked what I was in for, I told him to get my cd player replaced....he automatically said "Oh it doesn't play burned cds huh?" and I was thinking this is common knowledge here huh.....then he said "Don't worry this will fix that" and I was now thinking....really so you guys knew there was a problems and a solution? I'm just thinking Honda doesn't want to recall everyone of these defective cd players and as long as the people don't complain, they would keep it hush, hush. Its easy to blame it on cdrs and no admit their cd players are defective. IMO. So I'm thinking that will work for you too and it doesn't hurt to try.

I use Fuji cd-rs burned at 48x and have no problems at all
The Fuji media has been considered the best type of media.

Ok, so it took some convincing, but my dealer finally changed my headunit for me. I went today, all excited to be able to play all CD-Rs in my 2000 TL and guess what, it doesn't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys who had success with changing your HUs, were you just lucky or did I just have bad luck? Thanks for any input you guys have!!

I'm on my third HU and it still does the same thing. It's so annoying when you just want to listen to a song, but it won't play, or it will take like ten minutes for a track to play. Another thing that pisses me off is after about an hour of listening to a CD with the headlights on (radio lights create heat), I get a display that says --H which means the cd player is overheating, which means I have to wait like twenty minutes for it to cool down. It's so annoying...

The one thing I know that always works for me is if the CD-R is made for 16x speed or less. Not burned at 16x or less, but the actual CD-Rs are made for 16x or less. Any CD-Rs designed for higher burn rates give me problems. The ones that are designed for slower speeds work flawlessly. The only problems are finding them, but they're still around!! Try this and I bet it will work!!

Smile same here with my 01 TL

hi guys...just wanted to let you know i had the same problem with burned cds. mine is a 01 TL non navi...
so i bought a used HU out of a wrecked 02 TL non navi...
and since then i've never had any problem playing burned cd regardless of the cd's brand.
one funny thing...even though the HU of 01 up CL looks pretty much the same, it won't work with our TL. and also, when buying a used HU from junk yards make sure the car didn't have a front end accident since most of the time those 6cd in-dash HU go easily bad if in the event of the accident they had multiple cds loaded.
paid 400 for the HU and 50 for the installation.

anybody interested in a good HU for 99~01 TL???
just kidding guys... =)

Do the in-dash 6 Disc changers still have an aux import that I could use to hook up my alpine 6-disc changer in the trunk?

i have a 99tl with navi. i tried every cd imaginable and the only ones that work are the fujifilm 80 min cds. i tried tdk, memorex, imation, and a bunch of others. the reason that fuji cds work is beucase they are colored on the bottom. they have a greenish tint as opposed to the silver tint all other cds have. some people recommend the memroex black cds. these work as well but are very expensive($1 a cd). go with the fuji's, same result cheaper price. i burn at 8x
