Alot of 6 1/2's will fit with modification and/or a spacer. If you are going with a coaxial similar to the DX, you could get away with a direct replacement with no mods. Most speakers are different so, you would just have to try it and see. Or let us know exactly what you are putting in and see if anyone has done that. I personally have Diamond Audio S600 in the front doors. Made a aluminum spacer and did slight(very slight) trimming of the metal door panel.

if you install new speakers and keep the bose headunit..yes my friend you will have to do some rewiring to bypass factory amp..personally i wouldnt change mine till you have a new headunit..thats what im waiting to do so i can switch it all over at once..cause im also putting a new sub in the car cause the lil bose sub just aint doin it for me...oh and AcuraX2 im goin to go with the db6500 61/2 comp. set..and db650 for rear doors..solobaric L712..and a KVT-911 excelon screen..but anyways peace out for now...

this isn't quite true. you can replace the h/u and the factory speakers would play fine; and vice versa you could replace the speakers with out having to rewire everything. The key is that in the 99-00TL's the bose system operates on a 4 ohm load. Personally i wouldn't put aftermarket speakers on the factory h/u b/c the factory h/u houses a eq that will basically limit the performance of the speakers.

Also back to the original question: yesterday i took the door out and measured everything. using a spacer the same as what is on the factory speakers there is a mounting depth of approximately 3" and the width of the hole is 4" so you will want to keep the mounting depth and the basket diameter within those measurements if you want to keep from cutting anything (keep in mind that won't be very easy)
