2nd Gen - Double DIN radio in factory nav location and added an Ipad mini
Couple of before and after pictures. It's funny I spent two full days making this switch and if you didn't own a CL you couldn't tell anything has changed.
As the car came from the factory...
Mine with the radio and factory NAV locations switched...
If it looks like the radio is in there crooked or something, once the deck powers up it tilts the screen to align it with the face of the ipad below.
Video of it moving...
Without ipad mini...
With ipad mini...
Having the radio up top greatly makes things better functionality wise, it just makes more sense.
Made a little video of it all in operation...
System if you're wondering:
Kenwood DNN990HD head unit
Zapco SLB-TP4 four channel line driver
Rane RPM88 processor (modded for 12v obvi)
Four - Zapco Ref 750.2's
Two - Incriminator Audio Flatlyne 12" subs
Morel Elate 603 3-way fronts, 6.5" midbass, CDM88 mids, MT23 tw
Couple build pics.
Test fitting to see if it can happen. Looks like the factory nav will fit perfectly in the double din kit. Now just have to make it happen.
Got a little stuff in the way.
I wasn't smart enough to take a pic when all of the crap was in the way behind the factory NAV, the Bose stuff is long gone, so I didn't have to deal with that, anywho I borrowed this pic from a youtube vid.
After a little cutting, more cutting, modding the brackets and adding new ones it looks like the deck is going to fit nicely.
Had to rewire all of the deck connections, again. Also had to extend the factory nav wiring.
Next is to replace the 6.5" midbass drivers with Elate 9"ers, plus I have several other things in mind to change.

I really like that heading up top....I've thought about doing the same thing but my head unit doesn't have the navigation. It look cleaner without the iPad there. It just seems excessively big I guess. If it was more seamless i think it would look better. I do love the heading up top though.

I agree, Just added a DDIN nav unit to mine and the swap you did was cool but the ipad looked like you just velcro'd it on.... Some patience and fibreglass could make that look WAY better. Still great idea though...
