2g tl: door mount depth
i know that a 3/4" spacer is recommended (to avoid the window when rolled down) but was wondering how much clearance there is between the inner door panel and the speaker grill on the door trim?
aside from taking my door back off and removing it and checking i was hoping someone had a guess. i ended up cutting the stock plastic mount and using that but stuck the alpine bracket on top of that. it seems like i have clearance but im not really sure i do. any ideas what the max spacer size would be?

Hi.
My DLS UR6's fit without a problem--but I cannot remember thier depth (around 2.5 I think).
Somebody here said that even 2.75" deep speakers would work. He also said to increase the 3/4 by 1/8th up to 7/8". My take is that 2.75 would be about the max, and that he is correct. (I had to do that, go 7/8, on one of my rear doors because I messed up the centering of the driver). The 7/8" did not interfere with the door panel on the rear door, and I don't think it would with the fronts either.
Sorry that wasn't super precise, but that's all the info I have. If you do a search you'll see people putting CDT's and such in the 2nd gen TL, and I know nearly all the CDTs are 2.75.

The UR6's Derrick has have a fairly small magnet diameter, which helps in many cars. (They have a big VC and the magnet is inside it). The Diamond Hex I was test-fitting into a TSX the other day would hit at the bottom of the window due to a wide magnet structure, by way of contrast.

i guess what im wondering is how much clearance is there with the stock mounting basket? basically i just used it and tacked an alpine bracket on top of it so its higher than before. clearance to the window is fine im more worried about it hitting the speaker grill but cant really tell.
