Question 2008 TSX Factory

All:
I have been researching quite a bit on this site and have some additional questions for a stock 2008 tsx without navi.

I am looking to just replace the factory speakers, nothing else. This is also the only upgrade that I will be doing to the stereo. No messing with the factory amp or head unit, just want to replace the speakers.

I have been looking at some previous threads, but are a little unsure of what speakers will actually fit. I don't mind trimming out a small piece of the inside door panel, nor do i mind installing some spacers. I want the system to look completely stock however.

Here is what I am looking to purchase for the replacement speakers.

Front Doors:
Crutchfield says these fit. However I would like to go to the 6 3/4" speaker if possible.Pioneer TS-A1302C 5 1/4" Link: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130TSA1...l?tp=105&avf=N

I am also looking at just regular non component 6 1/2" speakers. What is the limiting factor on what will fit and what won't fit according to crutchfield?

Link: to the larger Pioneer TS-A1702 6 3/4" speaker. Will these fit with a spacer?

Rear Doors:
Will a 6 1/2" speaker fit in the rear door? again i don't mind installing a spacer and doing some minor trimming. I want everything to look stock.

Rear Deck:
Kenwood KFC-6972ie Link:http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KFC6...C-6972ie.html?

Crutchfield says the above don't fit. Any thoughts suggestions on that?
Link below crutchfield says these fit. Link:Rockford Fosgate Prime R1693

I would like to spend under $400 for all the speakers. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I would also like any specs that anybody has regarding speaker installation limits such as depth or anything like that.

For the rear deck get a sensitivity level of at least 93dB so you can hear the bass. For me , in my 2008 TSX, I used the shallow depth Boston Acoustic 6.5" coax - fit in all doors without modifying. The rear desk was a BA 6x9 coax also. I could not locate a true 6x9 wihtout the tweeter. I am very happy with these speakers.

Thumbs up

Miner:

Thanks for the information. This is what I was looking for. Crutchfield was ok. I have used them many times before and have been great service. they are however limiting my selection for my vehicle, this is why i went searching for others advice/guidance.

Thanks again for the tips. I was looking for some speakers with at least 92dB for sensitivity, as well as a low frequency range for the rears.

Here are the speakers that I am looking at for the car:

Front and Rear Doors:
Kenwood KFC-1682ie
Link: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KFC1...FC-1682ie.html

Rear Deck:
Kenwood KFC-6972ie
Link: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KFC6...FC-6972ie.html

I chose these speakers because of the price, as well as the specks.
The door speakers have a freq range of 35-22k and sensitivity of 92dB and power rating of 2-40watts
The rear deck speakers have a freq range of 28-30k and sensitivity of 93dB and power rating of 2-80 watts/

Any suggestions on these. Crutchfield says they don't fit, but they also say others won't fit that people on here have seamed to use. I chose these speakers for the price as well as the specs on them. Again to iterate I am just changing the speakers and will not upgrade anything else. I will do this change myself.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm looking to do the same thing myself, but I want to go with Infinitys. The reference 6022i 6 1/2's will fit the front and back doors with spacers. Another memeber confirmed that. I want to get the Kappa 692.9i 6x9's for the rear deck, but nobody seems to know if they'll fit or not. I want to say I read in another thread that the reference series 6x9's do fit, but don't quote me on that.

litesout: Thanks for the input. let me know what you come up with. i had infiniti components that i put in my old galant and wow!!! they sounded so amazing, but i did have an alpine h/u, sony amp and kicker sub. but they were amazing speakers. I will keep researching as well to find out what is the limit of the mounting for the speakers. for example if your 6x9's had a mounting depth of 4" and they fit, then ideally a mounting depth of 3.75" would fit. just making up #'s, so not sure what will fit and what won't. but i sure would like to get going on this.

Yeah, the information on the rear deck seems to be a bit limited. There's a mod listed in the FAQ section to remove the trunk bars and install dampers instead. If you do that, theoretically mounting depth wouldn't be an issue anymore. Looked really, really simple and people reported that it only cost like $50 - $60.

If you can find MB Quartz RCE 269, its a 6x9 component system. Which means the tweeter is seperate from the 6x9. One of the few i remember that fits what you're looking for.

I remember Eldurino had his own brand with a 6x9 with no tweetr. Not sure if hes still around

I took a pretty close look at it last night and I don't think the trunk bars will interfere with the 6x9's. Unless its got a seriously massive frame on it, it should fit. Depth shouldn't be an issue though and the bars are actually to the rear of the magnets.

cool! thanks to all for the input... i just hate having somebody else do something easy like this, it will cost too much, plus i like doing things myself, you learn something and you know it was done right.

my main concern on the 6x9s was the top of the speaker. I am thinking that the rear deck cover won't hit the speaker, or at least i hope not. I hope to get these speakers soon and can't wait to hear the difference. All "factory" speakers even the premium ones don't seam to ever match up with some decent aftermarket ones.

Unless you are going to replace the factory amp or re-wire the rear speakers (rear door to the rear deck) then there is really no point in upgrading the rear 6x9s. The rear deck is crossed over in the factory amp for bass only. Adding a component or two way will not yield any improvement with the sound quality.

no plans on doing anything to the audio system but some simple speaker upgrades. I was looking on some other threads I believe on this website that said they heard significant improvements over the stock speakers with just a simple speaker upgrade. Now i do take that with a grain of salt. I am just looking for some tighter bass, and just more defined mids and highs.

i believe the thread was this one: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=278849&page=3

Any thoughts or suggestions on this. I am just looking for a little bit better sound. I am not going to add a sub or additional amps, headunits or anything like that. Just wondering if doing just the speakers is worth it??
Any thoughts and suggestions is appreciated

Thanks Guys

make sure the speakers have a high sensitivity rating if you plan on swapping nothing but the speakers

rattmann: the speakers that i am looking at is posted above. They probably are not the best speakers, but for the price, the specks seam to be great compared to others. the sensitivity of the speakers are 92dB and 93dB. not sure if that is great, but they seem, relative to others that i compared, that is fairly good. im just looking for some tighter bass, and just some less sloppy sound.

The high sensitivity is specifially why I'm looking into the Infinity's. And they fall into the same price range as the ones you're looking at. And, there's another member here who's put the 6012's (last year's model) into his with no problems. One of these days I'll pull the trigger on them, and when I do I'll post my results.

that would be great. I did have infinities before in my old galant, and was very very impressed with them. They are truly good speakers!!!

please post when you do decide to get them

I will, and I'll continue to visit this thread often. Its going to be a while before I do anything. I'm currently in the process of buying a house, so most of my free time is spent packing. I've rented the same house for the last 6 years, so I've accumulated a lot of stuff!
