2005 Navi DVD problems - how to fix?

Hi, I have a 2005 MDX with a navigation system. Recently the system said that it was downloading software and would load the navigation system. I found posts here and I removed the DVD and sent it back to Alpine and got it repaired. It came back and when I re-installed it worked for 2 days and then stopped again.

During this I found that the drive has a PC slot and that with a type I PCMCIA type I adapter I can get a card for it. My question: is it possible to copy the DVD contents and use a solid state card to get away from the DVD drive? I have read lots of post related to this subject and they seem to suggest that slot is for tech use only. I have also seen others who have done something and by adjusting the start up reference can get the system to use the card and not look for the DVD.

Does anyone have a good answer or link for where I can learn more about this?

Thanks!
