2004 TL steering wheel into a 2003 TL-S?
Gentlemen (and women),
I am thinking of installing a new stereo HU into my 2003 TL-s, probably an Alpine. The lack of stereo controls compared to the new TL's steering wheel isn't a big deal, however if it can be remedied that would be great.
Does the 2004 TL steering wheel fit in the 2003 TL? I am not worried at this point about accesories, I want to know if the hub will fit and if the screws are correctly positioned. If so, does the 2004 TL use the two-stage deployment technology, therefore being incompatible with a 2003 airbag system/wiring? If anyone has tried or actually done this thing, I would like to hear your story.
Thanks,
Jeff

I checked the info on air bags for both models. Both the 2004 TL and 2003 TL-s have dual threshold, two stage airbags. I am not sure about deployment speeds, etc, but I am checking into that. The audio controls are different, giving the driver more options in the 2004 TL, but still controlled by a single data wire. The steering wheel controls are lit as well, a nice bonus. The cruise controls may be the hangup as I believe everything is controlled from the steering wheel, including on/off, which resides on the dash of a 2nd gen TL. I think I am going to buy the plain, barebones wheel and check for fitment. If it works/fits, I will work on building a conversion wiring harness and get all the bits from a junkyard and post my results.
