2000 TL OE Sub Enclosure Requirements

Hi all,

During the past year I have very successfully installed the HU, EQ, and after market midrange (2) speakers into a custom OE-looking console in my 1964 Austin Healey 3000 Mk III. This achievement was made possible through the suggestions and documentation provided by members of the list and I am looking to tap into the source for assistance again.

Presently, I would like to construct and install a custom fiberglass enclosure to house a 2000 TL sub in the boot (trunk) of the car. I am looking for the sub specifications needed to calculate the minimum/maximum enclosed space area.

Thanks and all the best

waste of time. they are infinite baffle subs and would sound horrible in an enclosure. best bet is to remove it entirely then find an aftermarket amp sub combo.

Thanks for the input….I was afraid it would be something like that. Another question on the HU-amped front speakers. I have installed (2) 4-Ohm aftermarket mids and tweeters on 2 of the 4 channels and was wondering if I could bridge the front left with the back left and the front right with the back right for increased volume.

Thanks again for your info.

All the best,

as much of a pain as it may be, I'm with rattmann on this one... you should look into the Alpine PDX amps, as they're small enough to probably fit under your seats. If you got a 4 channel (and your head unit was capable of it) you could do what's called active processing, which gives you complete control over time delays, cross over points, etc. and is theoretically the best sound quality you can get. Then a 2-channel amp bridged or a mono amp could run your sub in the trunk. That should sound pretty solid...

I appreciate your direction and, had I not gone through the work of replicating the console (keeping the original and AM radio for concourse) specific to the TL HU, I would follow it. The sound from the Bose HU with aftermarket mids and tweeters sounds pretty good…..but with little base. I understand that the original EQ cuts the base from the mids and, therefore, I thought the implementation of a sub, mounted under the spare wire wheel in the trunk, could supply the missing base. Although I already have the Bose amp and sub, forgetting the sub and eliminating the EQ in favor of an aftermarket amp would probably supply satisfactory base out of the mids…especially with the top down.

Thanks again for your valued input.

All the best,

RAC68

^ hey dude, as long as you're happy with the sound, that's what matters. You can ask for advise all day long from people, but everyone's ideas and everyone's ears are going to be different...
