12v Blitzsafe and DP1US

Hey Guys,

I bought a Harmon Kardon DP1US Ipod integration kit.. and a blitzsafe to facilitate the aux input..

The harmon kardon dp1us comes with a 12v power harness..

Do I have to splice into wiring.. do I need to buy a mating harness for this thing?

Would there be sound quality/volume loss if I just use the 12v cigarette plug?

Anyone have any expertise in this area?

Thanks!

Here is the owner's manual for your unit. As for powering it, I would just run some wire (16 awg speaker wire would work great) from your battery into the dash, or wherever you're unit is. Hook the positve from the battery to the yellow wire on the unit, and the negative on the battery to the black ground wire on your unit. Now is where you make the choice as to whether or not you want to splice wires. If you want your HK unit to turn off with your stereo, then you can tap into the wiring harness for your stereo and find the remote wire (more than likely this is going to be a light blue). Cut that wire and splice in the red wire from the HK unit. This will allow the HK unit to turn on and off at the same time as the stereo. If you choose not to splice it in, you will have to turn the HK unit off, or it will drain the battery until it turns off by itself after an hour of non-use. It's all up to you. I personally would just cut the remote wire and splice that red wire in.

ok..

So, is there any sound degradation if I just use the supplied cig lighter plug?

Not sure about that... It's your call if you want to use that, but keep in mind, you won't have an auto on/off. There shouldn't be any, but I can't say for sure... My best guess is that you would have to try it to find out...
